Eek! My director dropped a doozy on us...
So, for the past 3 months or so, my high school drama director has said our spring show (my senior show) would be Godspell. We've all been preparing as such. Auditions are tomorrow and Monday, and just yesterday he informed us that because of some parent's complaints over the religious content in the show, it would be changed to Jekyll and Hyde.
As such, we've all flown into a bit of a panic to revamp our audition songs and whatnot. I'm a strong soprano with a high range (not sure of the exact note, but I haven't found one that I can't hit yet, including stuff in Candide, if that helps).
I'm thinking of doing Christine's part in All I Ask of You from POTO. I know it's a bit overdone, but I'm strapped for time and I know it well. Do you think it is a good song for an audition for Emma? Or is there something else that I can learn quickly that would be better? Thanks!

I was actually considering POTO songs to use to audition for Emma when I had my audition for J&H (my director chose to have everyone sing from the show instead). I was going to go with "Point of No Return," but I think that "All I Ask of You" will work. Especially if you know it well. There's nothing worse than selecting a song that you'll do poorly just for the sake of not doing something overdone or inappropriate for the character (which I don't think you have to worry about that).
Emma is a great part. She sings up to a C6 (At the end of "His Work and Nothing More"). Break a leg!

It's a shame you have to make a switch so close to audition time. I hope everything goes well!

Wow, thats kind of going to the opposite spectrum. Parents cant handle religous content but sex, murder, Prostition, and rape are ok? God I love our society.
Anywho emma is a great role. She tends to be more on the legit side of things. I would definitely go with "All I ask of you" It some what resembles the duet emma has with jekyll, "take me as I am".
