Now to Beyonce. First let me say, I am a huge fan. I have both her solo albums and was a huge Destiny child fan. I always thought her voice was amazing. Now she was fine in the movie. Her part did not take much to be honest. Be happy and innocent here be a bitch here. Her big number, Listen would honestly have been awesome....except Hudson completely makes you forget about it. i was impressed w/ Beyonce during Listen but when you match it Hudson, nope. When the three sang dialogue, it was pretty clear that Beyonce was the weakest singer. She would add some rolls and stuff that were way off. However, I think she made a fine Deena, which is kinda blah role.

Nice review; I can't wait to see it.

However, keep in mind that Deena is supposed to be a weaker singer, and the role is more internal, more introverted; Deana is not untalented, but flawed, self-concious. So....Beyonce must have done a pretty good job; based on your review.

However, I haven't seen the film, so I dont know for sure, Im just taking this from what you're saying. And no, I am not a B fan; though it must appear this way from reading my posts here- lol!

I love and dislike Beyonce. It's like marmite.

I want to see the film when it arrives in the UK early next year. Looking forward to seeing Eddie Murphy. Haven't seen him for a while - probably just me but very excited to see him on the big screen.

Eddie Murphy is AMAZING as Jimmy. A lot of people say Jennifer Hudson is the whole movie, but it's not just her. Eddie Murphey is absolutely great as well. I've never really seen him out of roles that weren't purely comic, but he manages to be a hilarious Jimmy on stage and easily switches to a flawed, serious, Jimmy-on-herion. He's also got quite a voice. He was definitely my favorite performer in that whole movie, including Jennifer Hudson.

Another question: Does <insert character name here> (not wanting to spoil it for anyone) die in the musical or just the movie? I don't remember his death when I saw the musical, and neither do people I know who saw it on Broadway. I couldn't find anything about it online, though.

I'm yet to see the movie but I've heard great feedback. I cant wait to see it though. My friend said she liked it better than the performance she saw of it. It may have just been the people that performed it but still, I'm excited!

I am refering to the scenes when tehy are singing dialogue not teh Dreamgirls performances. When the girls are singing dialogue to each other you can just tell how much weaker she is. I think she is good in th emovie, especially her "Listen" but it is completely overshadowed

It is only in th emovie that {character} dies. In hte play version after teh c haracter's interesting, pants dropping performance the character is dumped by love and by the manager and then is just gone.

INteresting fact: : In early versions of the play, the character Effie died, and Jennifer Holliday originally refused to be in the show. When no suitable replacement could be found, the story was re-written, making both Effie and Deena, and not just Deena, the main characters of the story.

Here is a link to a story about Florence Ballard, the woman Effie is based on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Ballard

That's what I thought, thanks. I like the movie's take on the events better, actually. It makes a hell of a lot more sense and really makes the movie more emotional. Also, it gives <actor name> a better chance to show his serious side. Although I do admit I was a bit surprised when he died. It was like- WHAT? THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE SHOW!

I kept getting chills throughout the whole movie every time musical numbers came up. Beyonce was great, I thought. I'm not an amazingly huge fan of hers, but she really pulled together a great role. She was emotional and sweet. Jennifer Hudson was, of course, stunning; and I really loved Eddie Murphy too! I'm definately buying it when it comes out on DVD!

I found out that Beyonce is pissed off because Jennifer Hudson is better than her. I downloaded "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going", Jennifer Hudson's song and it is excellent. I cannot wait to see this film. A big group of my theatre and choir friends are going. YEAH!

Jennifer Hudson can sing, belt, act, do anything better than Beyonce. It's just how Jamie Foxx(Curtis Taylor) said in the movie to Beyonces character. The reason I picked you is just for your body, your voice has no soul. It fits her perfectly.
