 Meeskite
I just heared "Meeskite" for the first time on Broadway XM radio. I loved it! This musical is so fun to listen to...
Maybe one day I'll see it live!

OOh! Yeah. I like this song, too. Too bad it was cut from the revival and from most subsequent productions. It reminds me of something Tevye would sing in Fiddler on the Roof.

If you ask me it is a tad random. It was also cut from the 1987 revial. Yes, it is a funny song, but doesn't really advance the plot. The only other mention to it is during "If You Could See Her" on the OBC. I think it was wise to take the song out and put the reprise of "Tomarrow Belongs To Me". It makes a tad more sense of what is going on with all the characters. I think if it had more to do with the story it would have stayed in.

the reprise (or main version of) Tommorow Belongs to Me was always in that scene. it just doesnt appear on the OBC.
and the reason Meeskite is usually cut is because its such a yiddish number that few Schultz' since jack Gilford have been able ot do it successfully.

You really don't deserve that username.
That, and it happens to suck.

Yep, I have worked on Cabaret. Just because I don't like a number doesn't mean I haven't seen the show. Yeesh! I happen to really love Cabaret okay. Chill.
Plus what does the song do? It establishes that Shultz is Jewish? Is some kind of metaphor for the whole show? The song just kind of, at least in my own opinion, random. It was there mostly just for enterinment, not to advance the plot in anyway.
BTW:I saw a copy of the 1987 script, and I couldn't find Meesiket anywhere, so I assumed it was fully cut from the script. Also I didn't like the song that Cliff sings in the 1987. It is good, but the first song I think did a better job of establishing the fact that they are "sleeping and dreaming" while the Nazi Party is slowly taking over the country, as mentioned in the finial.

Well the thing that makes me question whether you've seen the show is that Meeskite and Tomorrow Belongs to Me were both in the same scene, one wasn't replacing the other. After Meeskite theres a bit of dialogue and then Tomorrow Belongs to Me starts.

The 1987 verson doesn't do that, so I didn't know that there was a reprise of Tomarrow Belongs to Me because it isn't on the OBCR, like Salome said.
