 Which Recording?
I've decided that I'm going to buy the soundtrack to the Music Man. However, when I went on to Amazon to listen to the sound clips, I discovered that there are 4 different versions that are easily obtainable:
The 2000 revival cast recording
The Original cast recording
The 1962 soundtrack recording
Disney Presents the Music Man
I was wondering if any of the four is obviously better, or if not which you all would recommend.

I'm a fan of the 2000 Revival.
The Disney version sucks.
A lot of the songs seem to be spoken.
The highlight of the Disney version is def. "Wells Fargo Wagon."

I would personally go with either the Disney or 2000 Cast Recording. Kristin Chenoweth steals the show with her solos on the Disney Cast. The 2000 Cast is very well done. For some reason I like the "current" recordings because the music seems more upbeat and full. The Original Braodway Cast Recordings are great as well

 Re: Which Recording?
I know that this is an old thread but....
I had no idea that there was a cast CD for the Original Broadway Cast Recording. I have the 1962 soundtrack, and the 2000 revival. I've got the Disney CD ordered from the library (can't wait to hear it).
Between the 1962 movie and the revival, I think I like the revival version better.
Must start looking for Original Broadway Cast. If I find it, I can have all four cast versions. I'm looking for a copy from the library (rather than purchasing it online).

 Re: Which Recording?
The Original Broadway is basically the movie with Barbara Cook instead of Shirley Jones.
Personally, I like the revival, though I also like the movie because I love Shirley Jones' songs (no matter what some other people here may say about her interpretation).

 Re: Which Recording?
I like the indiana concert cast recording as well.
Honestly you can't go wrong with either the OBC or the 2000 revival. I prefer the revival simply because I think the orchestrations are fuller (and better sound quality)
Disney version sucks

The Original Broadway Cast Recording, simply because you get Barbara Cook in the role of "Marian Paroo."
