Post Re: Les Mis Movie
The first teaser poster has been spotted:

With CinemaCon kicking off on Monday, we’ll be bringing you lots of coverage from the event throughout next week including interviews, panel recaps, and more. Steve is already in Las Vegas for the event, and while walking the floor he came across the very first promo poster for The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper’s big-budget movie musical Les Miserables. For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for all the major theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year; it’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners. As such, this is just a very simple promo poster that’s pretty much just advertising the stellar cast and the fact that Les Mis is headed to the big screen this year.

Somebody cast as Azelma?

Abi Woolston @Abiwoolston
So jealous of @Catherinewoo playing the onscreen daughter of Helena Bonham-Carter + Sacha Baron Cohen in #lesmis! #siblingrivalry!!!

Interesting. It looks like they're adding quite a bit of stuff (Azelma, the elephant, etc) that isn't in the musical but will be nice little flourishes for people who've read the book.

90 seconds of LM was screened at CinemaCon today, of Anne Hathaway singing I Dreamed a Dream. Looks like it went over great!

Moisés Chiullan @moiseschiu
LES MISERABLES teaser has Hathaway absolutely crushing "I Dreamed A Dream", recorded live on set. Raw, captivating, passionate. #cinemacon

Tristone Cinemas @TristoneCinemas
First footage from Les Miserables shows Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman in top form.

Michael Dequina@twotrey23
says Anne Hathaway's "I Dreamed a Dream" = different,appropriately quieter for film & more teary & emotional... #LesMizMovie #fb

All Things Fangirl@loquaciousmuse
Just saw first ever footage of Les Mis. Only like 90 seconds and it had me bawling. *beep* Hooper.

Steve Nash @SteveNashLA
Universal presentation at CinemaCon was unbelievably good. TED looks ridiculously funny. Also saw 60 secs of LES MIS. Breathtaking.

Steven Weintraub ? @colliderfrosty
Also they world premiered a 40 second teaser type trailer for LES MIS movie. Holy ****. Looks insane. Filled with emotion. WOW.

All Things Fangirl ? @loquaciousmuse
@erincmccarthy they just showed les mis footage!! I cried!! Ahhh!!!

All Things Fangirl ? @loquaciousmuse
@colliderfrosty @erincmccarthy wow only 40 seconds that was?? Powerful 40 seconds, damn.

Steven Weintraub ? @colliderfrosty
@loquaciousmuse @erincmccarthy the 40 seconds of footage almost got me. Man, Anne Hathaway can SING!

Josh Horowitz @joshuahorowitz
My biggest takeaway of about 60 seconds of Les Miserables footage: Anne Hathaway probably should get her Oscar dress ready.

In fact, Azelma was kicked out of the musical in the English-language version. She was in the Original Paris Staging when Mme Thenardier sends Cosette in the wood.
Nice to see her back !

Hope Petit-Gervais will be there too ! [-o<

Since it's a movie, they can tell stories in a very short amout of time easier than on stage. I would be awesome if they could add some orchestral parts (I dream of a reprise of the lovely original long orchestral parts of the original French staging...) to show the convent scene for example...

Here's a report on the teaser from Cinema Blend:

Les Miserables

Because the new Tom Hooper film is still in production, Universal didn’t have much to show from the new Victor Hugo adaptation, but what I did see was pretty fantastic. Most of the footage consisted of single shots of characters in costume and out of context, but what really stuck with me was the music. Playing over the entire trailer was a rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream” sung by Anne Hathaway, and it was spectacular. As previously reported, most of the singing in the film is being done on screen rather than in a studio, and it added a certain raw quality to the sound that fit in perfectly with the tone and look of the movie.

We also saw raw footage of Tom Hooper’s Les Mis, w/ Anne Hathaway singing. Looks beautiful, I love the way he shoots, going to be an event.

I thought this was in reference to the orchestration but nobody cares about dumb things like music so I'm assuming Hathaway sings IDAD in a quieter more reflective, less belty fashion for film which is what I expected and am glad is the approach.

Us music fans are dying over here though, wondering what is going to be used, which musical language, for the film version? Will it be the version most associated with the show or the one concocted for the purpose of getting away with downsizing?

Brief clip of Russell Crowe singing a bit of the Australian folk song 'Click Go the Shears' last August:

Sounds pretty good, I think!! Gives you an idea of what his non-rock voice sounds like. And this was before he started vocal lessons for LM.

Thanks to campaigning_musical_lover who posted this on the IMDb Les Miserables discussion board.
