Re: Best Rainbow High
LOL. I agree that she's a bit over-rated but I can't deny having enjoyed her performances in Chess, Piaf, Sunset Boulevard, & Follies. She pretty much nailed those parts imho, especially Piaf. One thing worth mentioning though is that someone has always proven to be better than her in all of the roles she originated: Patti LuPone in Evita, Betty Buckley in Cats, & Judy Kuhn in Chess. That's just my opinion of course. :p

No one can beat Yvonne singing I'm Still Here. Ann Miller however came close. those 2 really felt it.

Re: Best Rainbow High
Not Betty Buckley. She was terrible in Cats, even she said that she never cared (because she didn't get headline billing) and didn't put any effort into the role, and it shows. Delia Hannah, Debbie Byrne, Pia Douwes, Izabela Zając, Chrissie Hammond, Julia Howson, Cornelia Drese, are all better than Elaine Paige in the role, but Betty Buckly wasn't. Give Elaine Paige a bit part with a big show-stopper solo, and that's where she's at her best.

Oh, I have. Just rewatched, actually. My comment remains in tact.

Re: Best Rainbow High
Honestly, I believe Rainbow High is a song that needs to be fierce, with anger behind it. Eva is trying to get revenge on the aristocracy by stepping all over them and climbing to the top. Many actresses try to make it a makeover-type song. Patti is one of the few that performs it that way. She sings manically, and that's how it should be.
