 Re: Audition song thread?
Hi! I JUST found out a local theatre company was having auditions for a summer show and they're doing Chicago and Noises Off (something like that, I have no clue what the name is) I' looking for a REALLY solid audition song for a mezzo. Any suggestions?

 Re: Audition song thread?
I've noticed that more and more directors and producers ask for upbeat songs, so if you're stuck between a ballad and an uptempo, go for the more lively version. Hearing 50 "Bring Him Home"s might be a bit of a downer for casting directors. Whatever you do, choose a song that you love to sing!

 I'd appreciate some help!
Hello! I'm a long-time lurk and a first-time poster and I am thinking of auditioning for Fiddler and Les Mis , and I'd really appreciate some help/song suggestions! Fiddler is semi-pro and Les Mis is a children's/community theatre (6th-12th grade). High school senior (18 y/o) Can look 14-19 y/o Mezzo/Soprano (Belt isn't extremely strong) 5'1" 86 lbs Light brown hair Fair Skin
Fiddler: I'd want to be Hodel or Chava. Seeing as I'll probably be one of the youngest auditioning, Shprintze or Bielke is somewhat likely if they are being included in the production. Ideas: How Could I Ever Know- The Secret Garden Emma's Reason- Jekyll & Hyde Much More- The Fantastiks
Les Mis: I'll be the first to admit that I am not terribly familiar with this musical (I know-- I'm a freak of musical theatre nature). I've listened to all the music and know the plot, but have never seen the show. I usually like to be more prepared than this for auditions, so I'd really appreciate some input on what character I should audition for. Ideas: No One Knows Who I Am- Jekyll & Hyde Astonishing- Little Women Once Upon a Dream- Jekyll & Hyde The Movie in My Mind- Miss Saigon They said that for this one, we may sing from the show, but I still feel like that's a bad idea... Am I wrong? I know there's a lot of Jekyll and it's overdone in some areas, but I feel like it could be worth it? I dunno. Input is so incredibly appreciated! Feel free to message me as well.

 Re: Audition song thread?
So I'm trying to build my song book and have a couple question about songs. I'm a Tenor.
Is there ever an appropriate time to use something on the avoid list? I'd like to add Sunset Boulevard and There's Me to my book, but Andrew Lloyd Webber is always recommended to avoid due to popularity. Would there ever be a good time to use an ALW song?
I'm currently working on The Proposal from Titanic for a Contemporary Ballad. Does that seem like a good choice for like a Les Mis or Phantom audition? I don't hear Titanic songs being done too often, so I'm at least hoping it's not overdone.
I also really like the song Alive! from Jekyll and Hyde. I've gotten the impression that show is a bit overdone, but it seems to be mostly in reference to This is the Moment. Alive is a great power song, but seeing as it's Jekyll turning into the evil Mr. Hyde, I can't think of any other show where that type of character is similar. Which I guess would make that a poor song choice if it doesn't relate to anything else I'd audition for right?

 Re: Audition song thread?
I'm auditioning for 42nd Street pretty soon, and would like to be Peggy though I would settle for any part. Any ideas for a mezzo soprano audition song, preferably something upbeat?

 Re: Audition song thread?
Hi,
i am a 37 year old alto/mezzo physically on the large size, comfortable from E3 to E5 with a bit more at either end that I can hit with practice and I have a strong belt.
I need a contrasting song (to Maybe I like it this way from The Wild Party) that I am castable as - upbeat preferably for auditions and I am struggling finding something I like.
Anyone got any ideas?

Not for a specific show at the moment but I need one for college and trying to broaden my upbeat repertoire. It needs help ) I've got Oom Pah Pah from Oliver and Always true to you from Kiss Me Kate but I need more inspiration as I have done those at college.

 Re: Audition song thread?
Hi everyone!
I have an audition for Legoland in a couple weeks and I have to sing a 16-20 bar song in the style of musical theater, pop, or rock, and perform a monologue. I've only ever done musical theater before, and have no idea how to go into this audition - granted, the shows are going to be for younger kids. Bacause of that, do I go in doing everything really animated and kinda over the top or do I treated it like a regular audition? I'm planning on singing "Pulled" from the Addams Family

 Re: Audition song thread?
Chances are, the judges have heard Les Mis songs way too many times before.

Look at Dames at Sea or anything in the old style of musical theatre...Crazy For You for example is all Gershwin tunes. look at "Someone To Watch Over Me" or "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heary" by Hanley..
