Post OT: I'm curious about your opinion of Rush Limbaugh's latest
Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

So, I heard that Rush Limbaugh's latest radio SNAFU had to do with the issue of insured birth control. Apparently, he said something to the effect that America should have the right to watch, on video, a woman's private business, if she was going to force the insurance companies to make her private business American business by forcing them to insure her birth control.

I realize that ole' Rush spoke harshly, but I myself actually happen to agree with the general gist of his sentiment. I don't believe that the American system/ taxpayers' system should take responsibility for anybody's personal sex life; anyway, if a woman is going to scream "It's MY body!", then she shouldn't expect the government to pay for her personal sex life. Besides, the argument FOR the insured birth control doesn't even take into consideration the fact that it takes TWO people to create a baby during sex. That's right; the aforementioned argument is sexist against men.

I believe that when the women who want to claim that "it's a WOMAN'S body!" wish to squawk, they should avoid involving men in whatever happens to their bodies. In other words, I believe that if a woman becomes pregnant via a sperm bank, she has a right to squawk about her right to make unilateral decisions about her body. Whenever sex between two people occurs (Sex, not rape), the woman who was involved has the obligation to take her male partner into consideration, because even though HER body is carrying a fetus, it wouldn't even be there without the participation of a man.

I believe that if America DOES decide to insure birth control, they are sending the message that irresponsibility is cool (What would people say if cigarettes were insured, on the assumption that nobody had to be responsible for the health of their own bodies? How many people would support THAT decision, and then be willing to offer support when everybody got lung cancer...of their own volition?), and that if America is to go that far, then she should at least insure all male forms of birth control, too, including condoms! That would at least constitute equality, which is what America keeps claiming to represent.

I mean to say that if birth control was paid for by insurance companies, then that decision would benefit not ONLY married adults, but irresponsible people (I'm gonna assume that the insurance companies would NOT insure minors) who just wanted their, um, personal "adventures" financed by the insurance companies.

I'm also not certain that it's such a good idea for insurance companies to be financing birth control, because sooo many birth control methods prevent pregnancy so well that they cause adverse side-effects. When a woman uses a potentially harmful form of birth control, and she has heard about the risks of using such a method of birth control, she should not be covered by an insurance company, because that would be too much like a chain smoker (who knows about the risk of cancer) being covered for cigarettes.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Well, anyway, I'm curious to know weather or not you agree with Rush Limbagh's opinion, and why.

Thank you in advance for your replies, and please, let's keep the conversation clean and free of dirty language.

Not exactly. Had it been simply that, it wouldn't have made the news. The big blowhard says something like that almost every day. That wouldn't have been anything new.

Backstory:
Our beloved Congress has taken issue with mandating the availabilty of contraception for religous organizations.
They even held a congressional hearing about it. Of course, since this was under GOP control women weren't invited. The Democrats had picked out a witness, Sandra Fluke who would have given testimony about her 32-year-old friend who lost an ovary and began experiencing early menopause symptoms because the student health plan at her Catholic-run university refused to cover the birth control pills that were prescribed to treat her polycystic ovary syndrome.
The "Voice of the GOP" Rush Limbaugh weighed in with his expert opinion:
LIMBAUGH: So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.
What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex. What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.

------------------
Needless to say, this didn't go down well at all. The Voice of the GOP saying such things left congressional GOP leaders looking very anti-women. (Well, even more than they normally do). And Obama, didn't miss a beat in this dance gave a well-publicized call to Sandra Fluke...saying whatever, it really doesn't matter. It was a just a political play for women voters. Which of course had everyone in the GOP turning right..err..left about to condemn Limbaugh.

Advertisers have been running away from Limbaugh. (Current count is at 140) *shrugs* Clear Channel is contractually obligated to continue paying Limbaugh until 2016. ($38 million/year) So, he'll likely make a comeback of a sort. Unless Clear Channel buys him out. If that happens, he can say hello to Glenn Beck.
------------------------

No one will sell me on Limbaugh's opinion...
Congress however may have a point.

Problem is this woman was talking about a friend needing birth control pills for ovarian cysts, and then Limbaugh spews phenomenally vile invective about her, calling her a slut and a prostitute. I'd be very surprised if she doesn't sue him for slander.

Also, in regards to his repeated use of the word "feminazi": I've seen really, really bad feminists. A young law student crusading for birth control is not one of the bad feminists.

I'm a Christian, and I think birth control and condoms and the like should be free. I think we need better sex education in the United States and we need to stop demonizing the responsible choice to have protected sex that won't result in unwanted pregnancy, birth complications, etc.

Then again, I go to a "liberal university" and I'm a "sexually liberated woman," so I'm sure my opinion isn't worth a damn cent ;)

^ Second that suggestion/alternative for religious organizations. And you bring up a good point, the birth control doesn't just control when babies pop out of us. I'm using it to regulate my cycle and whatnot only right now. Too bad I'm just such an awful, Godless slut.
