Re: Elisabeth
Oliver played Der Tod too weak for my taste, but after yesterday (he made a pretty strong Rudolf) I'm wondering if that was because he had to play it in Dutch (a language he doesn't speak), he had a bad day, or if I just don't like his interpretation. Maybe I can give him another chance... We'd love to see Gernot Romic as Rudolf (and that has nothing to do with not wanting to see Oliver, but we just like Gernot so much!), so we're going to see if we manage that in Essen. For me it would be ideal if Mark would be playing again, but there is a big chance that (with Oliver being the understudy for Mark) Oliver will play der Tod in that case... We'll see!

Re: Elisabeth
There's this...Uwe doing Die Schatten with a Korean Rudolf I'm assuming...a really really FAST Die Schatten XD Someone was in a rush to go home that night XD
There's a crap load of these concert clips, I guess it was a preview show. But it looks AWESOME
I'm loving Lucheni:
Funky choreography for the ensemble though XD
Oh and Kim Junsu (his nickname is apparantly Dolphin?) doingWenn Ich Tanzen Will...and it's pretty epic ^^
And they still have the stairway...is like some contractual obligation that every production has to have the stairway? XD

Uwe's hair seems to be making the slow migration to the very middle of his head. Not really sure what to think about that.
That is a pretty sweet Lucheni. Really strong voice. I want to see more of him. What's his name.
Kind of interesting how everybody's period jackets are looking about a century too early.
According to my friends who know more about this than I do, Kim Junsu's nickname derives from the French 'dauphin', which means both 'prince' and 'dolphin', however you want to parse it. It's a leftover from when he was in his boyband. He was the precious one.
The stairway is Elisabeth's only iconic setpiece. Which is kind of funny considering that it's basically a more impressive Heaviside Layer.
The clips are part of the concert Junsu: Levay with friends.
Lucheni is played by Eun Tae Park is a great actor, he played Mozart even better than Junsu for my taste.
I have high expectations of the Korean of Elisabeth, the way they have approached the play attracts me. PD .- someone knows the lyrics of Prolog it is used in the trailer? Because I think are new lyrics

Re: Elisabeth
I have high hopes for the Korean Elisabeth. It looks like they have a solid cast, anyway.
BUT...I have some randomly awesome news. I just got randomly contacted by someone looking for a copy of a Dutch bootleg DVD she was looking for. We got talking, and somehow we ended up making a deal to trade copies. So now I'm gonna own the Vienna DVD AND a copy of the original Dutch production! XD
Sharing all around!

Re: Elisabeth
Apparently the Korean Elisabeth is doing really well. They're already talking about an extended run, and it's hardly opened yet.
That is awesome news! Yayyyy.
So, apparently Mate is now going to be one of the Deaths in the new Toho production of Elisabeth. I guess he and his Japanese must have been quite good in Mitsuko if this is going to happen. Thoughts?

Re: Elisabeth
mmm...I wonder how they'll costume him. I doubt he'd be able to pull off the long-haired pretty boy goth-thing the others have going on (Yes, I know he already has long hair, but long-hair on Japaenes men is a whole other animal compared white guys with long hair IMO XD)

Well, assuming those promo shots of the cast are in costume, I'm gonna guess that they're just letting him have his own hair. Given the rarity of blonds in Japanese theatre, this isn't too surprising.
Anyhow, Mate looks kinda crap with excessively long hair.

Re: Elisabeth
Hey, random question! I've been out of the musical theatre loop for awhile (busy with school/work). I'd heard Uwe had destroyed his voice or something. He sounds fine in the Elisabeth clip though. Not his best but not bad. Did he rest/heal it? I'm confused. I can't read German very well so hunting online is more difficult.

His voice isn't what it was anymore nowadays...but it is better again than it was a few years ago (in Dracula for example). I don't know how much he can recover, I'll report you after I've seen him in the Sound of Music!

Aww, poor dear. How did he hurt it? I remember listening to him sing Rebecca -- it sounded like it was taking a lot out of him.
...I kind of loved the German Dracula though. Ultimate guilty pleasure. I was pissed that there was no explanation between Dracula and Mina's love, but I'd be a filthy liar if I said I wasn't a giggling fool during Zu Ende or swooning during Die Zugsequenz. The American version was pretty barf-worthy though...even my soft spot for melodrama doesn't stretch that far.

I do love the German Dracula too! But on the DVD you hear clearly that Uwe's voice wasn't really good that days...the same indeed with Rebecca, I've heard that he never had the high tones in live-performances!
I don't know how he hurt it, but I guess he did simply too much with it...an overload as they call it...
