 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'
(I did some searching around the forum, and couldn't find a thread for the show - forgive me if there already was one!)
We go into tech for our production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood on Sunday, and I couldn't be more excited! The music is right up my alley, and I'm having such a good time with the cast. I have to say, after spending the last month belting out Jason Robert Brown songs, it's great to be singing in a full soprano again! I'm in the ensemble, and am also singing Beatrice's line in the 'Moonfall Quartet.' The only thing I'm not really digging about the show is the whole improv with the audience aspect. It's a really neat idea, and I'm sure that it'll be great - improv just really isn't my thing.
Has anyone else been involved with Drood? What did you think of it?

Oh man, I wish I could see it! I love the music so much. I feel it's one of those not well known but well known shows, because it pops up from time and time again in community theatre, but since the musical recording is so hard to get...it's not that mainstream.

I'm actually not all that thrilled with the cast album. I really like Betty Buckley's performance as Drood, but I found Patti Cohenour as Rosa Bud quite underwhelming; not a huge fan of her voice at all. I haven't heard her in anything else, though, so maybe it's specific this recording.

Yeah, I hear you on Patti. I love George Rose, though. but hey, at least there's something out there..... there needs to be a revival cast!

Re: 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'
I've always loved the cast album of Edwin Drood, and I'm really excited because one of the theatre companies at my school is doing it soon! It'll be my first time seeing it live. Pumped.
I agree that there should definitely be a revival. Wo would you guys cast?

I'm not normally a fan of hers, but I bet Stephanie J. Block could sing a killer "Writing on the Wall."

That's a pretty awesome idea. I'm actually a huge fan of SJB, and I can see her reinvigorating the role in a pretty big way.
Though in a more Betty Buckley strain, I think Carolee Carmello would also be great as Alice/Edwin.

YEEEEZZZZZ to Stephanie J. Block and The Writing on the Wall!
Here's how I feel about Drood in general: I love the music and most of the performers from the original cast recording. I've never actually seen the show, but the plot kinda turns me off. I'm not a fan of the whole different ending thing. I don't really like Spelling Bee for the same-ish reasons. Not a big fan of the whole audience participation thing.

I love Drood!!!!! It's so fun! The music (Most of it) is actually underrated, in my opinion. I would love to be in it one day, especially since Bazzard is one of my dream roles.

Re: 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'
I just saw this yesterday. It was put on by my school's musical theatre company, and it was fantastic! Princess Puffer was our killer, and Bazzard and Helena were the ones to find love. I admit I was skeptical going in to see it, but I really shouldn't have been. Now I would love to find a cast recording. What do you all think about the news that Roundabout is producing a revival? I'm kind of ambivolent.
