Auditioning for a Company's entire Season.
Hi Everyone! I'm going to audition for a local company's 2011 season which includes: Oliver, Hairspray, Ragtime, A Chorus Line, and A Christmas Carol. We are to sing 16 bars of our best Musical Theatre song. However my best are either over done songs, or from recent shows so they're a no go. I am a Soprano; but I have a very wide range and can belt as well. I am looking for a song that shows a lot of range. I have chosen my back up song (If they ask for a different song) "Nobody Does It Like Me" from Seesaw. I would use it as my "best musical theatre song" but I don't think it shows enough range, especially for such a wide variety of shows I am auditioning for! I have been looking at "A Home for You" from Bat Boy. This is my first post to Musicals.net so forgive is I wrote too much, oor too little. I will appreciate any help. Thank you all!

I can't make a specific suggestion for you, but let me offer something I've taken to heart. I'm a bass with a big boomer of a voice and a big range, and the temptation is to find something that goes really low then just open up and drop a vocal bomb on them. But the best feedback I've gotten after song auditions has been that they loved hearing a voice with my timbre and power that could still sing softly and clearly.
So, I'll suggest this. Find something that shows dynamic range. If you have a belt, go ahead and let them know it's there, but offer some variety in expression, and give some good enunciation and vocal form to it.
