 Re: Miss Saigon movie
I wouldn't say to let Rob Marshall direct, but is anyone arguing that he's not a competent choreographer? I think if he unleashed his Fosse bag of tricks from Chicago on this one, it'd be a good fit.

 Re: Miss Saigon movie
If you're after a director - I think Alan Parker or similar would be needed. Considering that he did a sterling job on Evita...
Maybe collaborate with Oliver Stone or other directors who've made Vietnam films.

 Re: Miss Saigon movie
I'd love to see a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. Ben Kingsley would be terrific as the Engineer.

 Re: Miss Saigon movie
After the Oscars and the huge huge success of Les Mis, my best bet for a director is Steven Spielberg. He always wanted to do a musical film and he even turned down the offer to do Les Mis in the late 80s. Miss Saigon seems the perfect choice for him now.

All I can hope is that it's someone who knows what they're doing. This movie has the potential to be really, really corny if executed poorly.

 Re: Miss Saigon movie
He seems to be doing a good job on Smash even though he's only Exec. producer on that show. I'm a huge Spielberg fan so I'll be excited to see what he'd do with a modern musical. Plus if Spielberg is involved John Williams might have a hand in it as well. It would be interesting to hear Williams orchestrate the songs or provide extra score material for the film as he did in Fiddler on the Roof.

 Re: Miss Saigon movie
Gosh, I've been listening more and more to the London recording, trying to envision how certain scenes would translate to film. Anyone have any ideas as to how they'll do The American Dream? Let's have fun with this. I was thinking maybe they could make it into an animated scene.....
