Rights taken away from our school for RENT?
The other day our school announced that the next yearly musical would be RENT. However, our teacher said that although changes would have to be made, we weren't doing the schools version but the proper version of the musical. Today we were informed that the musical can no longer be done as they've had trouble with the rights, but they wouldn't tell us what. All we know is that the next musical isn't RENT. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? I think that we did have the rights but they got taken away and no-one knows what happened..
Help!

It's possible that schools aren't actually allowed to do the full version (this is likely, but I don't know for sure) and someone got wind of it.

I don't think such a restriction exists, since the full version HAS been released now.
Perhaps your school falls within the locus of a larger professional production.

Perhaps MTI found out you guys were going to make illegal changes to the show.
