What if it is a gift? I have A's in most subjects in school, but I did not study for a single test during this semester. Others in my class studied for every test, but still got D's and C's. So how come I who seemingly doesn't deserve good grades, get them? Might it be that every human-being are different? That perhaps I, who always neglected schoolwork, could be smarter than my fellow students? Why, that's absurd!

Every student has a unique learning style. Some people are naturally extremely intelligent but slack off on homework and don't get good grades on assignments but get fantastic test scores (like my brother and other friends), others are the opposite and work extremely hard in class and on assignments but do poorly on tests due to anxiety and stress, like myself. The trouble with the US school system in particular is that they don't take various learning styles into consideration very often, which is why many students far so behind and fail, especially in terms of standardized testing.
And I think the science/math students being considered "strange or "uncool" is a poor argument since some can be as egotistical and polarizing as some theater and music students. I wish I could be talented in sciences and math because it would make things a lot easier, but I am just not, no matter how hard I studied, I've always naturally excelled more at English, Social Studies, and music and theater. I'm not going to bust myself learning something I'm not particularly passionate about or intelligent in, but instead focus on subjects that interest me and that I excel in.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee * (unless you changed "my unfortunate erection" to something else lol, and added a chorus )
Aida I WANT TO DO THIS!
All Shook Up
Cabaret *
Camelot ?
Chicago * (they really wanted to do this - the kids that is - but me and my drama teacher persuaded everyone that it'd be rubbish as there are literally no triple-threats )
A Chorus Line *
Company * (inappropriate, awkward for parents, not enough strong singers.. )
Damn Yankees
Evita *
Footloose
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum * (too challenging)
Gypsy *
Hair *
Hairspray
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying * (too difficult)
Into the Woods
Jekyll and Hyde *
Jesus Christ Superstar * (it's too "big" a show for us)
Kiss Me Kate
Les Miserables * (we haven't got the singers )
Little Shop of Horrors
My Fair Lady
Oklahoma!
Oliver!
Once Upon a Mattress
The Producers *
Ragtime
Rent *
South Pacific
Sweeney Todd*
Urinetown ?
West Side Story
Okay, this is personal to my school, with the teachers and student talent pool as it is right now, to the best of my knowledge.
Anthing that is really suggestive (like in "can't keep it down" in Fame") is usually cut in our shows or changed a bit, so my choices are based on whether there's enough "suitable" material for my school.

Either you are exceptionally bright and grasp everything the first time or you weren't challenged. To be good at something worthwhile a person has to invest a lot of time outside of the classroom. For each hour in the classroom I spent many more hours studying and working problems. And I certainly spent more hours practicing the piano than time in piano class. Golfers like Tiger Woods spend hours hitting balls and practicing putts. It's not a gift requiring no practice and no coaching.
I guess there are geniuses and the strange cases such as the "idiot savants" that have unexplainable skills with no training, but the norm for most of us is we have to work more hours outside of class for each hour in class. My point is that I think Hollywood tries to make it all seem too easy...and it's not.

I'm just saying that Hollywood portrays them often in an unflattering light. Even the theater "geeks".
That's fine. So long as you find your calling. But people should have basic competence in many areas.
This person thinks that math should be taught differently
Teach Statistics rather than Calculus
And he is right because we don't use Calculus as much as Statistics.
And I've posted this lecture before but it seems appropriate.
Our schools kill creativity
And it even has some relevance to theater people here.

Most movies ARE glamorized depictions of life. The main goals of big budget, commercial movies are to entertain and make tons and tons of money. I don't think anyone really takes movies like Legally Blonde that seriously-it's a sunny, happy, unrealistic but entertaining comedy. It's not striving to be more than that. If you don't like that, don't watch them.

I can't know what a film contains until I see it. I don't intend on seeing "Legally Blonde" again. I just hate the idea it shows of people living a party life in college and suddenly decide..."Oh! My boyfriend is breaking up with me and going to Harvard...I think I'll go to Harvard too! I'll just keep practicing the LSAT till my score is high enough." And then "Harvard" decides to have first year law students work a murder trial. I know it's all in fun but.....

What? That would be totally ironic, as the point of the show is how adults shield young people from the sort of information Spring Awakening gives.

To which list?
Spring Awakening- absolutely not in a high school. A college production, yes. I don't want to see a watered down version of Spring Awakening in a high school, and if there's nudity, you can guess what a parent's reaction to that would be. And that's only one of the things that would likely receive a negative response from a school's community.
Besides that I've seen too many interpretations of "Mama Who Bore Me" from high schools on youtube. BLAH. I can only imagine how they'd butcher Spring Awakening if they got their hands on it.

Spring Awakening would be a great show for high school, actually. I'm not sure how the whole "I Believe" section with the nudity would work out, though, seeing as toplessness is obviously not an option for kids under 18.
