What did you particularly like about the score?

I think all the emotion behind it, basically.

What attracted me to the Wicked score was how "fan pleasing" it was. I'm not criticizing Wicked because it's a good show but I do think that it's a show that both theatre people and non-theatre people can go to and have a good time. The songs are good because teens can relate to what the characters are singing and feeling at that time in the show, especially Elphaba's character. Like someone had said before on this forum, I don't think we could honestly relate with Elphaba if she was a real character and I agree with that. The music is relatable, fan pleasing, and it just creates a fun atmosphere for a show.

I love the youthfulness of the shows music. It really feels youthful because of the rock edge that it has to it. I also like the themes that Schwartz gave to each of the main characters in the show.

Okay I misspoke. It's pop music. But there are some rock moments in the show, especially in No Good Deed.

Eh, kinda. I don't really see it. I'd have to listen to the song again to really get a feel for that statement.

It's mainly in the chorus I think, still kinda poppy to me, but hey, that's just me.

Pop is a genre that is defined by the popularity of a song. If it has been on the charts, then it is a pop song. Wicked, as far as I know, has never been on the charts, and therefor is not pop. Most musicals are generally hard to put somewhere. Many fall into the musical genre, and many are crossovers, making them half rock (JCS, Les Mis), jazz (City of Angels, West Side Story), country (The Last 5 Years), Classical music (Most operettas which sometimes are considered musicals, such as Candide).

Therefor Wicked is not by definition pop unless the songs have made the charts.
