I saw her last Saturday. She was horrible. Her sound was never the same, she sounded deep sometimes, then suddenly it became squeaky and nasal and she never kept the same "sound picture". Her acting was not bad, but not nearly good enough. Her voice was sometimes okay in her solos, but in the duets she sang so loud that you barely could hear the people she sang with, and she could not manage to make her voice "fit" their voices.

I am utterly surprised how someone that bad ended up having a lead in a West End musical.

Thoughts?

Was she Elphaba? I'm interested, I haven't been to West End. As a matter of fact, I haven't been further east than Florida. :x

Yes, she was, and it was horrible! I wanted to stick my fingers in my brain and do the la-la sound, that's how bad it was.

I'll keep that in mind for when I plan to see another show.

Last Saturday as in the 27th or 20th? If it was the 27th it was her last show.

Hmmm, I've seen her twice and she was really good both times. Not my favourite Elphaba, but still solid in her vocals and acting performance.
Maybe she was having an off day?

Her last performance on the 27th was mind-blowingly incredible.

I saw her matinee performance the 27th, and she did not have a bad day, because it wasn't her voice that was the problem, it was her technique and sound picture. She went from one sound, then to another, and to yet another, then back to the nasal, and suddenly into something more solid, then suddenly back to the nasal again. That is not good, that is horrible! Most of the singers at my High School are better. If she had just been nasal all the way through, that would be perfect, but she didn't act at all when she sang, and it was not to believe in at all.
