It won't be long though...
I took a class on world war II this past semester and my professor always gets vets to come in and he said that this was the hardest he's ever had to work to find them. All of the vets from his first, second, and third panels have passed.
I'm just so blessed he was able to find the 8 that he did and they were able to pass on some of their stories...they're just so fasinating!

I agree very much with everyone who is disappointed (for lack of a better word that even I can come up with) about the passing of an era that went with this lady. I think this century will be full of things like this, to a degree that has not been seen in others before, since so much of history exploded in the twenty-first century. I'm young enough that I don't have much of a connection to a lot of things in the early to mid century, but it will be weird for me when the Korea and Vietnam veterans go. And, actually, a few Iraq veterans will be going shortly before I do. It's a reminder that history is always happening and we are part of it.

My grandpa is a WWII navy vet. But he's in his 80s now. It does make me wonder how many there are left.
It is odd to think there are no living ties to the Titanic, now. Though really, even when she was living, she didn't remember the Titanic at all.
Are there any WWI vets left? They would have to be over 100 now, wouldn't they?

Coincidentally, the oldest man in Australia, and their last surviving WWI veteran, died today, decreasing the number to at least five but possibly six, out of an original sixty-five million plus.

That's so sad....
What's wrong with these people that they don't live forever and keep dying on us??

I hope that is true. Unfortuneately, many of my generation don't even know what happened in WWI, even less do they think to honor the memory of its veterans.

I'm reading a book about D-Day. I went to the landing sites at Normandy a few years ago and everything there just broke my heart. There was a beautiful letter written by some kid on the wall of one of the many museums which captured my feelings perfectly. I'll see if I can find it...
