Most people I know pronounce lesson like "lessin." It's not uncommon (which, by the way I pronounce "uncommin"). I don't thik it was a forced rhyme, I think that is a perfectly normal way of speaking depending on where you are from. I'm from the Northeastern part of the U.S. Where do you live?
ETA: So far I have asked people from NY, NJ, PA, MI, IL, IN, MO, CA, FL, and VA. And Everyon I asked pronounces the word as if it were spelled L-E-S-S-I-N.

I think you found the problem there.
I say Lesson, just with a short 'O' sound rather than a long one. Isn't it 'lessons' anyway?

So... I might be wrong... but I don't think these are set up as a rhyme. Do "cool" and "fool" rhyme? Sure. But I don't think that their locations make it a rhyming set.

It is a rhyming scheme. I'm not sure which but it's either called a Half-Double Rhyme or a Trailing Rhyme.

I'm not sure exactly of the rhyming scheme by "tender heart" - "tends to start" and I'm too tired right now to figure it out. When i do, I'll edit the post.
