Just like the title of the thread says.
Which one do you think is the most difficult to act?

I'd have to say Glinda, only because it's so easy to step across that line into the ridiculous. It's a fine line between her being "ditzy" while still staying sweet and caring, and just plain over the top. Not all actresses have pulled this off. In fact, from the many times I've seen the show, most haven't.

Galinda's your typical comic ingenue. She starts out funny and ditzy and ends somewhat serious.

The trick is playing The Wizard. He's got some major duality, being both the most charming character and the most heartless and evil of all.

What about Nessarose? I think she can be tricky to play and is a very underrated role in the show. A lot of people see her very Eponine-esque, but I think if played right it can be a really good role...

The Wizard's duality isn't as complicated as it could be. He truly thinks he's doing what's best and that's what keep the role from being truly "evil". If you had to really make him evil.. THAT would be SOME acting! hehehe

Glinda I have to say would be the hardest to act, due to the ability to make it a characture rather than a character. You have to make Glinda a mean girl, but also loveable and endearing. You have to have ur audience loving you and hating you at the same time and that's a hard thing.

Wow. You seriously misinterpreted the character of the Wizard.

The Wizard isn't doing what he thinks is best. He's doing things to keep himself in a position of power, and he's willing to do anything to do it, including approving the assassination of the governor of Munchkinland. Think about it, in Wonderful, when he talks about lying to the Ozians, why does he lie to them? Why does he try to unite the Ozians against a common enemy? Why does he try to reach out to Elphaba? It's all so that he eliminates challenges to his power and consolidate the public's approval. The landscape of Oz in Wicked is exactly like how the United States was right after Sept. 11th. The Americans had a common enemy, we all got behind the President, and we all trusted him not to mess things up. While we all know that trust was misplaced now, it hadn't reached that point yet with the Ozians. They're obviously more impressionable than Americans which is why they're so easy to manipulate. And that is exactly what the Wizard and Morrible do - manipulate the citizens for their own political gain.

Oh I never misunderstood that it was all for their personal gain! I just mean that in the Wizard's own MIND he really thinks it IS best for the animals to be in cages and for the people to be lied to.... he has been conditioned (from his time in "our"world) to believe that it's all ok! and for the best! And everyone does it! right? LOL Now... if that's exactly EVIL... that's another discussion. But it is lazy, misguided, and yes, power-hungry.

I think Elphaba would be difficult just because it would be hard to add depth to a fairly badly written character in a fairly superficial production... at least with the Wizard have more to work with
With that in mind it's still one of my ultimate guilty pleasures

Oh but that's where I disagree. He may think it's ok to lie to people, considering the lyrics of Wonderful, but I don't think he's putting animals into cages for the animal's welfare. He's doing it as a political move "well in my world, animals are dangerous, especially lions, so if you don't want to be eaten..." This unites the people against the animals, while thinking "wow, someone really cares about us". As for evil, I think the script gives situations in the second act that he's evil, ruthlessly killing Nessarose and trying to tempt Elphaba using her own words - pretty manipulative. I can guarantee you he wasn't making the offer to Elphaba because it would help her. It would've been a way to get an enemy off his back. Who knows what would happen to Elphaba if she had decided to join the Wizard? I'm thinking the Wizard would have her poisoned in her sleep or something.

I think Elphaba. She could be made obnoxious really easily.
