Okay I agree, Mamma Mia is crap, and I hate it. But, it (unfortunately) is a musical. I am very sad too. There is nothing in the definition of musicals that they have to be good or use original music.

I think Mama Mia still considered as a musical. But the style was too old fashioned. We've seen so many musical shows nowadays and it has new and unique way to present it...

Anyways, still love the songs from the movie...

Mamma Mia is obviously a musical. No matter how you view its story, it's still musical. They are obviously giving recognition to the singer ABBA. It' not really that bad.

i think mamma mia is actually a very great song and it has actually proven itself by standing the test of time and is still popular today, that it is even played still on radios today.

the names are not really important, perhaps of what you speak is a clarification, and arguably a bad musical. instead of saying that this is not a musical

I think I understand the original post in that yes, it's obviously a musical as others have stated, but take the songs away, and the story although weak, still exists. I think there are a few of us that cannot handle change, and although change is often neccersary, change for the worse never is.

As far as I know, Mama Mia is a musical. They present it with good music, lesson, and costume.

I think "The Winner Takes It All" is awesome in the show when done well.

You know what I think? I think people can get a little pretentious sometimes. They know a show is written with old pop music and it's not original so they immediately put it in a category and say it is trash. Maybe if we just allowed ourselves to view things with an open mind we would enjoy things a lot more. I'm not saying "Mamma Mia" is the best musical ever or anything, I'm just saying I think the show is a fun, good time, and we should allow ourselves to have fun and enjoy it instead of just automatically assuming it's terrible because of what it is. We shouldn't be so quick to judge. Personally, I can usually find some good in everything, and I think anything that is theatre and gets people into seats to enjoy and support live theatre is GREAT!
