 Avenue Q School Edition?
What...?
So, I was surfin' about on the old internets, and I came across a youtube video of a high school doing Avenue Q... Apparently, it is a creator-approved version that deletes all swear words {When Kate shouts F*ck! in It Sucks to Be Me is replaced with 'crap'} and removes the Bad Idea Bears and Loud as the Hell You Want... What are your thoughts on this?

 Re: Avenue Q School Edition?
That's a little weird...there are plenty of other musicals way more appropriate, and Avenue Q is supposed to be adult-oriented. The lyrics are what makes the songs good, and taking out half of them defeats their purpose. Did they also "delete" The Internet Is For Porn?

I'm ASMing this in July. I don't have my script yet, but as soon as I get it I'll post more about what's been changed.

Go to Youtube and look up "My Social Life is Online."
Man, I feel sorry for the people singing it. At that number and the audience is practically dead. Not good for a comedy number.

Wow. That just made me a bit less excited for July. That was pretty sad...

 Re: Avenue Q School Edition?
I found out about it because I was searching different scripts liscenced by MTI, to see what the play for next year in school would be. I simply cannot believe that they did this. Besides the butchering that they did with the edits, there's the fact that an ametuer performer would probably have trouble with the puppets. I mean, the performances that I saw were good, but still, it probably took them a while to get the hang of it...

 Re: Avenue Q School Edition?
We had our first read-through last night. It's not nearly as bad as I expected, thankfully. "My Social Life is Online" is DEFINITELY the worst it has to offer. (The jokes later in the show referring back to it fall short as well.) The songs "You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want" and "My Girlfriend Who Lives in Canada" are removed entirely. Lucy the Slut is changed to simply Lucy, and is toned down (especially in the song "Special"), and Mrs. Thistletwat is renamed Mrs. Butz. The drug references are removed, the drinking is toned down, and the language is cleaned up (the ---- and shits are removed but most of the damns and asses remain in tact.)
If anyone has specific questions, I have my script now, so I'd be happy to answer them!

 Re: Avenue Q School Edition?
It just angers me that they would do this. I'm sorry but there are certain high schools who just cannot do a show. AVE.Q is one of those shows.

 Re: Avenue Q School Edition?
My first reaction on hearing that this existed was "What is it, 10 minutes long?"
There's really no reason for this to exist, I mean, the whole point of the show is examining how those early childhood "life lessons" translate into real world adulthood. High Schoolers don't have the full sense of nostalgia yet, and haven't experienced the real world that Princeton's entering, so ... where's the relateability?
