Re: Moulan Rouge on Stage
There have already been a few threads about this topic, though I can't seem to find the links to them.
The gist of what they said was basically that, yes, it might work onstage (and has already been adapted a few times for the stage, in Germany for example), but probably not very well, since so much of the movie's appeal comes from it's unique camerawork and since it would be difficult to get the rights to all the songs.
I'd be happy to see a high-profile stage version, though. I've always had a soft spot for that movie, mainly because of Ewan McGregor's hotness, and because I'm an opera buff and the plot is such a loving ripoff of "La Traviata" and "La Boheme."

This is a touring version of the German stage adaptation (I think that's all it was, actually, just a touring musical).
yeah, the budget's non-existent...with the sets at least. I guess they spent half the money on film and song rights and the rest on getting a big-name actor for Christian (Jesper Tyden is a popular male lead in German musical theatre), and he clearly outsings and outacts all the other characters...including Satine >__<
So...yeah, THAT'S what the Germans came up with...*shrugs* eh, It's worth it just for Tyden

Mmmm... what else has that guy been in? He may not be quite as hot as Ewan McGregor (who is?) but I love his voice!

That is Jesper Tyden, a Swedish performer who's had a lot of success in European theatre.
He was in the German premiere of Wildhorn's Dracula as Jonathan Harker, starred in a musical of Robin Hood and a musical about Pharaoh Tutankhamen, was Phoebus in Glockner, and understudied and starred as Rudolf and der Tod in Elisabeth several times during the course of his career. He's also got a couple of albums out, and he's going to be playing Toby in a future production of Sweeney Todd soon.
In short, he's absolutely wasted on this production of Moulin Rouge, which looks vaguely unlicensed to me.

He was in Der Glockner Emma? I knew both Andre Bauer and Olegg Vynnyk played Phoebus, but not Jesper. That would be pretty good actually...and yeah, as we discussed, he seems to have been roped into a underground production of some sort.

Yeah, apparently he did it in 1999. Maybe he understudied.
