I used Astonishing for my college auditions. I originally had some obscure underdone songs, but Astonishing sounded better in my voice than anything, and shows off my range very well. So far, i've gotten into every school I sang Astonishing for, and havn't gotten into the schools I sang my other song for. but I havn't heard from that many yet, so maybe that doesn't mean anything. It felt much more me singing Astonishing, which is why I think I ended up choosing it.

Yeah, so that pretty well overules the fact that it's overdone if it is.
What part did you sing? I'm assuming the end, but where did you start?

Not really, but don't use it unless you're auditioning for a JRB show

Overdone

I have a gut feeling it's overdone, but I just wanted to check here before I threw it out.

Overdone (though not as much as Close Every Door).

just checking. I'm thinking about using it for a Miss Saigon audition for Gigi ...does that sound alright?

Overdone. And a terrible song, IMO.

Of those, See What I Wanna See is probably a little overdone. As far as what I've seen, you're good with the other three.

wicked_diva, do you think "SWIWS" is TOO overdone? I am auditioning for LaChiusa's "The Wild Party" and was leaning towards this song. I wanna stick with LaChiusa. I feel liike "In Some Other Life" does not show enough range and "Mistress of the Senator" is a bit too rangey for me.

I am keeping "Everybody's Girl" as an option because I kick ass at that song.
If I decide to go with that, do you think it's suitable to some of the characters in "The Wild Party"?

Thanks!

Personally, I've only heard SWIWS used a couple times, and it seems especially fitting for Wild Party. So if it's a song you nail, go for it!

I can't think of what Everybody's Girl sounds like right now, so I can't say anything about that one.

And just a general note to everyone - while you don't want things that are too overdone, don't go with things that are too obscure, either, or the panel will spend the entire time thinking about the song and not about your singing!

This is a bit of a throwback to the genesis of this thread, but I'm gonna post a little list. Overdone, or no:

*You Are Never Away-Allegro
*Her Voice-The Little Mermaid (Probably, I know.)
*And They're Off-A New Brain
*Mama, Look Sharp-1776
*Run Away with Me-By Kerrigan & Lowdermilk, from "The Unauthorized Biography of Samantha Brown"
*Stuff from Bat Boy, State Fair, and/or Roar of the Greasepaint-Smell of the Crowd

I have a feeling Mama, Look Sharp is overdone, but I OWN it. Is it okay to use it? And Run Away with Me is kind of THE Kerrigan & Lowdermilk song, so is their stuff overdone as a whole?

Thanks!
