Sorry if this was talked about already(I didn't see a thread...), but what do you guys think? Has anyone seen Fight Club? I saw it recently and loved it, but I don't know how it would work as a musical. Thoughts?

What I find interesting is that they're apparently talking to its original composer about doing the music.

That would be interesting indeed. I really don't understand how it would work in a theatre setting, because to me, it's a story that doesn't work unless it's told a specific way. I think putting it in a musical form will just kind of take away from the seriousness of some of its ideas and make them awkward or not fully expressed. Sorry for the weird rambling... :eh:

I can see it as a straight play... but as a musical? Good god no.

How come you can't talk about Fight Club but you can sing about it? ;)

Honestly, I think this could be pretty fantastic if done properly. But it will take a LOT of work and one false step could ruin the project. It's a very, very, very fine line.

Wow, I'm not quite so sure this could ever be a good idea, but particularly after having the movie set the tone.

That said, I'll be interested in seeing how it works out and if I were able, I'd be down with checking it out, dependent upon reading a ton of reviews and seeing if ANYONE found any redeeming qualities in it.

Why do you take this as a given? Many musicals capably handle serious subject matter without compromising the integrity of the themes involved, expressing their ideas both skillfully and fully.

When I last heard about this, Trent Reznor, the electronic-music wizard who formerly fronted Nine Inch Nails, was in talks to write the score.

THAT would have been an interesting show. I don't think there has ever been an electronic or industrial rock score for any musical.
