Post ELF: the musical
Playbill has announced that Elf, the Will Ferrell comedy from a couple of years ago will be a stage musical pretty soon:

Quote:
A November workshop of Elf, under the direction of Casey Nicholaw... will have a book by Tony winners Thomas Meehan... and Bob Martin... and a score by Wedding Singer collaborators Matt Sklar and Chad Beguelin. Elf is hoping for a 2010 holiday debut.

Thoughts?

Later days
David

While I found the movie enjoyable, this feels like a "what other movies could we possibly put on the stage?" deal to me.

I think that it definitely could have potential on the stage but could also be a big flop too.

This is probably the best choice Broadway folk have made of recent movies to be adapted. It could make a heartwarming, yet quirky, holiday classic! It lends itself to music quite well, especially the main characters! I can't quite see New York City bursting into song and dance, but hey, it worked for Guys and Dolls, Annie, etc.
