I like to use the line "in the face of hatred" as an interjection rather than a continuation of the sentence. "You have set me a banquet of love - in the face of hatred! - crowning me with love..." I'm sure no one notices the difference since they've all been hearing it their entire lives, but it makes the song interesting enough to me as the singer to get through it yet again.

Of course, today was the vigil for All Saints, so I Am the Bread of Life was the exit song. I could tell everyone was impressed by both my A-flat and my E-flat. People who aren't necessarily singers get scared when they see them since they go beyond the "double D's," and if you dominate both, it makes an impression. (Though nothing like that historic Christmas Eve when my organist and I put our hooks into All the Ends of the Earth and abducted it from its usual place on the staff.)

No One Mourns the Wicked

... sorry.

Probably something cheesy that makes everyone cry. Comptine d'Un Autre Été, Seasons of Love, For Good - stuff like that.

Oh, weird!! I was just thinking about this earlier..

I would want:
*November Rain by Guns N Roses
*That's Your Funeral from Oliver! (kidding, but wouldn't that be hysterical?)
*Star of Bethlehem by Neil Young
*Louder Than Words from tick, tick... BOOM!
*Peace Will Come (According to Plan) by Melanie
*Sh'ma from Parade
*For Now from Avenue Q
*Thrasher by Neil Young

:)

I think I'd do a funny song to cheer people up... maybe "Master of the House" or have "A Little Priest" playing as dinner was being served...

Is it weird that I have never been to a funeral where dinner was served? Every funeral I have ever attended has been a morning service, followed by a tea.

So how about the rest of you guys? What you have played at your funeral, and, if it's not too personal or anything, why?

Personally, I am really not sure. I'm not sure I even want to be overly prescriptive about what happens at my funeral. I think that whatever the special people in my life need to do to say goodbye to me is fine. I might like that gentle ukelele version of "Over the Rainbow" played or "What a Wonderful World" or that medley of the two songs together. Just something where people can reflect. Maybe a string quartet playing "Hallelujah"; I do not think the lyrics are that suited to a funeral, but I love the music. I'm kinda down now. Depressing topic.

"No One is Alone" from Into the Woods and the choral piece "Sing Me to Heaven."

I would definitely have "The Point of No Return" from Phantom because it is my favourite song from any musical and it is very fitting for a funeral.

I'd like to have "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Prophet's Song" by Queen as well because they are works of art. I'd like to have "Bring Him Home", as well.

A tea? That's awesome! I want a tea after my funeral!

Jim Henson apparently had a really fun funeral; everyone dressed in bright colors and there was a Dixie jazz band that played "When The Saints Go Marching In" and everyone had colorful foam butterflies on sticks to wave around. I'd like to go for something like that; the Dixie jazz band sounds pretty great. It's hard to be sad when they play! =]

I don't want my funeral to be a big drawn-out affair. The longer it is, the harder it is to get through for those close to the deceased. So likely I will request that they don't play any music; I'd just want a short, simple service that only includes that absolute necessities.

If I had to choose a song though, I'd go with "We'll Meet Tomorrow" from Titanic. Love the emotion in that song.

And, of course, "Another One Bites the Dust", just to keep it from getting too serious. ;)

^Haha, I laughed at that. "Another One Bites The Dust." Nice.
I'm going to have to revise my list.

-Into the West- Lord of the Rings I will insist on this song.
-River-probably the Joni Mitchell version
-Try to Remember-The Fantasticks

Hm. Maybe:
Death Death (Devil, Devil, Devil, Devil, Evil, Evil, Evil, Evil Songs) by Voltaire
just to weird out my family. X D
but my friends would probably find it hilarious. ahaha.

Have always thought the cut song from Aida would be good: The Messenger with the line 'Death is just a messenger, love the truth it brings'.

Among others, "How Glory Goes" from Floyd Collins. Simply incredible.
