THE WIZARD OF OZ on the ROYAL VARIETY SHOW
So the Royal Variety Performance for this year has happened and one of the shows featured this year was The Wizard of Oz. There do not seem to be any really good video clips yet, although there is some rehearsal footage:
However, this video of the performance itself strikes fear into my heart:
Children as the Munchkins? Please let this be a gimmick for the this performance and not one that is being prepared for the show proper. This looks like Andrew Lloyd Webber is trying to cultivate the devil spawn child of Oliver! and Joseph.

So? They have been doing that for years. It's not like they can get a huge cast of little people again.

Yeah, the munchkins have been played by children since the show came to the stage. However, it would be interesting if someone used the techniques with people walking around on their knees, like in Elf. And can we talk about how lovely Danielle Hope's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is? Oh my gosh...

Doesn't make it any less tacky.

Well, thankfully this production seems to have departed from such an annoying tradition. I'm glad to see from the actual video footage of the show that there appear to be are adult Munchkins too, along with the children.
