Post Neil Patrick Harris to host 2012 Tony Awards
For the second year in a row and the third time in four years, Neil Patrick Harris will host the Tony Awards. He will also act as a producer, as he did last year. Liked what he did last year and hopefully it keeps up this year.

Alright, I'll break my silence, but just this once:

Am I the only guy who doesn't like NPH? Ordinary dancer, ordinary singer, and I intensely dislike the insincere sincerity. From a commercial standpoint, and given his willingness, I understand why he was chosen, but seriously, there's got to be someone else who can do this job.

I wouldn't say I dislike Neil Patrick Harris, but everyone borderline worshiping him does get old. It would be nice to see someone new host the Tonys, besides.

I agree with you about his ordinary singing + dancing skills, but he has such a great sense of humor and stage presence. And yes, it's mostly because of his commercial value. How many people that don't enjoy musical theatre are going to say "I'm going to watch the Tony's tonight"? None, but if there's a popular actor like NPH they might. It's basically the same reason they cast Nick Jonas, Darren Criss, and Daniel Radcliff in How to Suceed. None of them were actual Broadway actors, with theatre training, but because they were cast, it opened up Broadway to a new generation (15-yr-old girls).
And yes, I do love NPH and I am a 15 year old girl but I've loved musical theatre for a long time.

^ So why isn't Darren Criss or Dan Radcliffe hosting?

:) Good question, I have no clue. Some thoughts:
1) Darren probably can't, due to Glee conflicts. And he doesn't have much of a Broadway history. All he's done so far is a month in How to Succeed.
2) Age--it's like when a freshman has a lead part in a high school play, and the juniors and seniors are in the ensemble. Yeah, maybe the freshman is better, but hosting the Tonys is a huge honor and there are plenty of Broadway veterans that deserve it more.
3) Actually, Daniel would be a good choice. He proved that in How to Succeed & Equus, and he was pretty good when he hosted SNL. Again, the age thing?
And DONT ask me why Nick Jonas isn't hosting the Tonys. Just...no.

I think it's simply because NPH is a bigger name. Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss are basically known for one role apiece. NPH is definitely one of the biggest-name mainstream musical theatre performers, so that's probably why he keeps hosting.

SMH at anyone that doesn't think NPH isn't the best host today. He was the highlight of the 2010 Oscars, he was has been the best emmy host in YEARS, and his tony awards have always been good. Plus it's his charisma and charm that people like of him as an actor. How I Met Your Mother is one of the best shows in the last 20 years, and his character Barney is in my top 5 characters ever on TV. The only good Tony hosts have been Neil, Hugh, & Rosie. The last good host before that was Angela Landsbury and that was in the 80's!

Neil at least brings some viewers in, after all the Tony's have been on the verge of getting cancelled for years so you should be happy that he is hosting.

I'm not a guy but I don't like him either. He seems really full of himself and I've never been taken with him as a performer.
