I had watched the extended Avatar. It still sucks.

Bridesmaids 5/10

Not as funny as I was hoping it would be. A lot of "that's not funny, that's disgusting/awkward/painful" moments. I liked the (realistic, I felt) snapshot of women's relationships- true friends, new friends, competing with the perfect 'bitch' character, etc. And the twisted "I'll sleep with this guy because he'll have me" mentality of the main character. SOOOO many women are like that. "I'll take this prick, who walks all over me and only uses me for sex, so that I at least have SOME company and someone to have sex with". The best thing about the movie was the great acting from Kristen Wiig and Chris O'Dowd. Glad I saw it, and I'm really glad Chris O'Dowd is getting more exposure, but I'll not be buying this movie or probably ever watching it again.

Amadeus. Truly an outstanding film that should be considered as required viewing. Sure it's not entirely true but the excision is just pulled off so well that it doesn't matter as long as you are aware that it is just that.

The Tree of Life
Such an interesting movie. It is more of an experience than for entertainment. If anyone watches it, realize that. It is thought provoking and leaves a lot open to your mind and interpretation. It is long and not one I plan on watching again anytime soon, but I did enjoy it. Anyone here seen it?

^ Second that. I hated the love story portion of the film, but the rest was quite entertaining!

I recently saw Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Go see it, it's fantastic. :)

Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times

Not among the best of documentaries I've seen but it is good. Certainly better than that incomprehensible mess Inside Job with Matt Damon narrating.

The overarching subject in Page One is can the New York Times survive in the Internet age and what chilling effect will that have on news and the public's right to know? Pretty stunning idea because you'd think at worst a handful of papers will survive and among them would be the New York Times. But that is not necessarily so as even the NYT is downsizing as it is losing ad and sales revenue. We're seeing the more immediate media of the Internet breaking stories through blogs, youtube, etc., but these sources are not vetted by editors with the responsibility of checking sources. This film shows the slow unraveling of this once great institution which was the benchmark by which all other news gathering agencies were measured, not to mention the provider of stories to them.

Just got back from seeing Anonymous. Visually striking, but an empty sort of beauty. Would not go see it again.

Pinochio

4/5 stars

I'm a litle unsure of the usage of the word "jackass" in a G-rated movie considering the age of the children that watch it. Well, it was mostly because I had an eight year old in my lap asking what Jiminy Cricket had just said...Ah, well nothing I can do about it.

If you believe that 'jackass' in a film rated as suitable for children is objectionable, wait until you see Watership Down. It has a 'U' rating in the UK (i.e. suitable for all) and contains the phrase 'piss off'.

I personally don't see any problem with the word "jackass": in the context of the movie it only means "donkey."
