Right, well I'm understudying Anybodys at the mo, and I wondered if in any of your productions, you included her in the scene where the Jets nearly rape Anita. I know she's in the scene, she has dialogue, but did she take part in the actually attacking? Coz in our pdocution, Anybodys does. I know she doesn't in the film, and it is very sick of her to do something like that, and I was kinda questioning the validity of it, whether she'd really do that, to a fellow woman. What does anyone think?

Well, in the end, she didn't take part in the actual swinging, but she did torment Anita. Pretty good decision methinks.

I was just in WSS as Anybodys, and I was in the scene. I thought a lot about this scene in particular, just because I thought that being a woman herself, Anybody's wouldn't participate. But the director wanted Anybody's to take part in the scene, so I did.

In the last production I saw, Anybody's didn't participate, but sat in the corner and covered her face. So I guess it depends on the director and what he or she wants.

When I was a jet, and we were molesting Anita in a taunting circle , Anybodys actually is the one to get Doc! That is what our director had her do. And we all give her this look of disgust and she exits before even the Jets leave. Even before Anita , if I recall correctly. This is a good thread-starter , I know many people have questions about this.

Yeah, what she did was laugh and stuff, then it started getting a bit violent, so her and Baby John were kinda showing signs of distress/disgust and wondering what to do, then Baby John tried to get away and the other Jets grabbed him and said stuff like "It's time to make you a man!" Urgh, that scene was horrible to do, I always gave a hug to Penny (Anita) afterwards when I was covering.

I am currently in rehersals for West Side Story and playing Anybodys. I amin the Rape scene and deal with the roughing up part of Anita , but do not assist in the part where they take Baby John over and are about to place him on top of Anita when Doc walks in.

Anybodys tormented Anita the entire time, and just kind of watched. I think she ended up running off at the end, though.

No, Anybody's didn't take part in the actual physical aspect of the assault on Anita, but she did take part in the verbal baitings and insults. In a way, she acted worse than the guys, because she was a woman--somebody else who's also been oppressed, and is being exploited as a tool by those who've also oppressed her--the Jets gang, if one gets the drift.
