O/T [kinda] - Harry Potter & Secret Garden Similarities!
Guys... it can't only be me that notices it - just one line of the book, but still.
I have noticed it since about HP3 (Prisoner of Azkaban), but I actually laughed out loud in HP7 about how close it is.
Has anyone else noticed that Harry has LILY'S EYES?!
In The Deathly Hallows, there is actually a line that says "He has her eyes." Although Lily Potter's eyes are green as opposed to hazel, I still think it's pretty rad.
Well, sorry for sounding all fangirly, but I just think it's really weird.

Wait
Lily is Harrys mom...
And Lily happens to be the name of the main character in "The Secret Garden"
And Harry has Lily's (his mother) eyes.
And that brings us back to TSG?
It's like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon or whatever.

When I was reading Deathly Hallows I could just see Snape singing some version of "Lily's Eyes."

Seems most people who are familiar with The Secret Garden have noticed the same thing. It almost made me wonder if JKR was a fan of the musical.

Ha. Thanks to that song, I called it on Snape being in love with Lily from Book One!
(Although I was pleasantly surprised by the way it was ultimately presented. To have Snape and Lily be friends, and actually have Snape's own actions torpedo any chance he had with her...that's more interesting than having Snape pine away for some girl he had on a pedestal only to have her "stolen" by James Potter. And Snape always knew, deep inside, that it was his OWN fault things went south...his guilt over that must have only increased his resentment of James and Harry.)

I have always thought that naming Harry's mother "Lily" (and giving him her eyes) was a deliberate nod to The Secret Garden. J. K. Rowling is well versed in English literature, so she has undoubtably read the book. Also, there are other parallels (main character loses parents unexpectedly, sent to live with uncle and cousin) that lead me to believe that this is more than a coincidence.
And I love the Snape and James idea. Any filkers want to take it up? I've seen one "Lily's Eyes" filk on the internet already, but it wasn't about Snape (it was written before Book 7 came out).[/i]
