Martine (despite all the media hype and her appropriateness for the role) indeed turned out to be a bitter, bitter disappointment as Eliza.
As for a favourite recording, it's a toss-up between the 1956 OBC (in sublime mono); and the 1961 German cast album, where Karin Huebner is amazingly good.
