 Why do you like The Music Man? Personally, The Music Man is one of my favorite musicals, and it makes me kind of sad that it's not getting very much love.  At least, not compared to more contemporary musicals like Wicked and Spring Awakening.
I adore all of the songs (yes, ALL) and the script is still funny, even though it is a little old nowadays. It's easy to fall in love with the characters.
So any other opinions? Even if you don't like The Music Man, that's fine. Let's just try to liven this forum up a little bit.

The Music Man is a brilliant classic of musical theatre. Great book, wonderful characters, and incredibly witty and catchy score. Being a part of it was the best musical experience of my life, and I'd certainly do it again.
My favorite songs are Trouble, It's You, and The Sadder But Wiser Girl. Iowa Stubborn and Lida Rose are probably my least favorites, but even they are better than the entire score of Spring Awakening.

I love the music in The Music Man. Playing Marion is now a goal of mine. Songs like Marion the librarian, Goodnight my someone, and till there was you are absolutely amazing! I like the script, the whole production is really nice, and it's overall a brilliant show!

Re: Why do you like The Music Man? Funny, I was just thinking about this. I hate working "The Music Man" but I enjoy the music. I realized that most school and community theater products of the show are bad! It's not an easy show to do well. You need real talent - not just in the leads, but in the ensemble as well. The pick-a-little ladies can't keep tempo, the barber-shop quartet can't hold harmonies, Marian is shrill, and you just hope they found a man talented enough to play Harold Hill. Not to mention the kids who (you hope) can dance.
The show itself is pretty great though, if you get a professional production.

Re: Why do you like The Music Man? When I did this musical four years ago, my favourite song was Gary, Indiana. It was all I could sing for weeks. However, me and my friends all loved Shipoopi. My least favourite song in the show will always be Rock Island. Hated it the first time I heard it, I'll hate it the last time I hear it.
