David is far too good for a role that could be upstaged by a lunging Christine mannequin.

Dude has to work, I know. But just saying.

Great news for David! I haven't seen LND but from what I have read, it sounds like Raoul from LND suits David a bit more than Raoul from POTO. Guess I will be seeing this musical after all....

Really? Where did you hear that from? Raoul in the original is more caring, more sincere with that classic nobility which I think David would be able to pull off excellently, plus his songs are much better. Coney Island's Raoul is a bad tempered beast who lashes out at his family and complains about going to America when the only reason they're there is to pay off his debts. I don't know...but I think I can see David a bit more as the original classic Raoul. It'd be interesting to see his take on LND's though, no doubt.

As I said, I haven't seen LND - and I'm not really a fan of POTO - but I found Raoul from POTO to be a little bit soppy and (as Eppie-Sue says) more Marius-like. I personally think David does his best work in the darker, more tortured roles (see second part of Passion as opposed to the opening) and it sounds like LND!Raoul is a more a role he can really sink his teeth into. Can't really see him in POTO as anything other than the Phantom. Happy for people to disagree though :)

And look at his CV, I'd pay A LOT to see him as ....Sweeney,

YES :D Quite like to see him in something properly operatic, too. Just out of curiosity, really.

I'd just quite like to hear him sing All I Ask of You one day!

In case anyone's interested, he's bloody fantastic and dreadfully underused.

I have to admit, I actually like the songs Raoul gets to sing in Love Never Dies, so I think all in all good move Thaxton.

(I think though the songs aren't any worse than any of the Webber production . . . it's just the story is absolute crack, in a bad way. But then, I don't like the song "Till I Hear You Sing" and I like "The Beauty Underneath", so my taste may be a bit wonky. :) )
