Found this video by a fellow Les Mis DX-7 enthusiast a few weeks ago. Listening to the sounds, you will no doubt realize that you actually recognize them. Not only that, but you'll realize just how well mixed they are along with the traditional orchestral elements in performance and most recordings that one comes away only remembering a typical orchestral sound and something unique. That uniqueness is the DX-7 and here it is all alone, without its orchestral component.
As you will hear, pretty much none of the sounds try to mimic orchestral instrumentation. The patches were always meant to supplement the sound of the show and create an overall effect. The most recognizable are obviously the iconic "Look Down" *growl* and the "On My Own" and "Bring Him Home" harp-bell-like sound. Love this sh*t!!

Uhmmmm...Was this some kind of fluke/voice cracking or is that how he always sang it? That has to be one of the best things ever!

it is pretty unintentionally funny XD. On the cool end of things, this production actually has little Eponine in the scene before Master of the house. And I'm pretty sure Javert calls Valjean 'Monsieur Madeleine' (sp?) instead of 'Monsieur le Mayor' in the Confrontation, supposedly because the translation for mayor didn't work with the melody.
