Surely, you know Sir Cammack well. And that's why I love TVAW.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but someone's uploaded 'Les Miserables: Stage by Stage', a really cool 1988 documentary on the making of the show and its various international productions.

This is available on the TAC DVD.

Loks like it's in about six parts. Here's part 1, the other five are at YouTube:

That doc (aka: Long-ass CSR commercial, lol) holds a special place because I literally wore out 2 video cassette copies as a kid and every time i'd finish watching this documentary, I'd get this burning desire to see it again.

Those of you who love the original production and its creative team are like an extended family, don't watch it.

I watched again for the first time in a long time just parts 1 and 2, and I got that very distinct burning desire to see it again.

Except now I can't. Not even in London, because they put the new orchestrations, as the director calls it, new "dynamic and new language" with the original staging, which doesn't make any sense since they claim they were specifically created to fit the new staging. I can only imagine how much they clash with the original staging which was designed to have a sense of perpetual movement, which the new orchestrations don't compliment at all.

Gwen, yes, there is an official Polish cast recording that was just released last year that is brilliant. Check it out.

Paris cast - Molieres Awards 1991

Patrick Rocca and Julien Combey just make me giggle...however Jerome Pradon is the best looking and best sounding Marius ever. And Stephanie Martin...mmmmmmmmmm....

Wow, I'd forgotten that Julien Combey had that Adam-Pascal-in-Rent-movie mane until now.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Jerome Pradon originally set his sights on the role of Enjolras, but during the auditions, the casting team thought he would be more suitable for Marius and asked him to audition for the latter part. :)

OMG!!!! Someone has just posted these AWESOME vids from the Mexican production!!!

"Un Dia Mas" (One Day More)

"Solo Sillas En Las Mesas" (Empty Chairs At Empty Tables)

"Es Lluvia Nada Mas" (A Little Fall of Rain)

I love, love, love the way Eponine dies in this!!! Heartbreaking.

I'm guessing these were shot well into the run, which commenced in November, 2002 and ended August, 2004. The performers here are mostly the original cast, with only Enjolras being played by either an understudy or an alternate. I do know he is the one who opened the show as Grantaire. Enjolras was originally played in Mexico by Leonardo Luiz of the Brazilian production. The rest of the cast is as follows:

Jean Valjean - Fazio Galvan (alternated with Carlos Vittori, who opened the show)
Javert - Luis Rene Aguirre
Cosette - Claudia Cota
Marius - Ernesto D'Alessio (featured, but alternated with Rodrigo de la Rosa)
Eponine - Natalia Sosa
Thenardier - Roberto Blandon (I could be wrong, but it sounds like him)
Mme. Thenardier - Laura Cortes

Anyway, I seriously kick myself for not seeing it in Mexico. At the time, I was going through personal dramas and couldn't afford it anyway. Had everything been in order like today, I'm sure I would've found a way to see it there. It had a nice, long run too.

Sigh, along with not getting to London sooner in time to catch the show in its original home at the Palace, having missed the Mexican production ranks as one of my biggest Les Mis-related regrets. *cry*

Bravi!

Thanks Quique for sharing those clips, which led me to notice another Mexican "Es Lluvia Nada Mas":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5HEgbH5VPs

IMO, it is one of the most outstanding STANDING renditions of A Little Fall of Rain.

BTW, what does the phrase "Es Lluvia Nada Mas" mean literally?

That "A Little Fall of Rain" concert performance was beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

"Es Lluvia Nada Mas" translated literally: "It's rain, nothing more"
