First, he'll have to know whether or not it was designed by John Cameron or Jahnke and Metcalfe. :P

LOVE the teaser trailer! Even in poor quality cell phone camera footage it looks epic.

I'm loving it as well! Hard to tell just from that short clip, but it seems like they're going more for the traditional orchestrations rather than the altered post-2006 version... yay! And Anne Hathaway's interpretation of the song struck me as pretty interesting. I'm glad Tom Hooper doesn't seem to follow the Tim Burton school of musical direction, and is actually letting his actors act while they sing.

I'm struck by Hathaway's lack of belting in that clip - Every acted rendition of that song I've heard/seen has involved belting at the "I had a dream my life would be" up until the last phrase. I'm interested to see the whole number.

And I dunno if it's the quality but I thought I heard her go off-pitch a couple times.

That's exactly waht I loved in the little we can hear : She is not belting or singins out loud.
I hate that "systematic belting" fashion.
For example, in the O2 25th anniversary concert, some phrases are belted for no reason, and it sounds quite out of topic. I have the "Look Down" at the very begining in mind...

Singing for an opera (with no microphones), for a musical (with microphones) or for a musical movie is very different.

The movie can make the audience much closer to the character. More intimate. In that moment, Fantine is supposed to talk to herself, and it is not necessary to sing loudly...
A song can be interpreted in countless different ways. I like the fact she isn't singing this song as a copycat of what we already know. If we stick to the lyrics, the music and the context of the song, it is completely accurate...

A shadowy pic of Valjean and the Bishop:

I never fully realized how tall Hugh is until now! Colm looks so short next to him!

A cute brief clip of Colm Wilkinson, in his Bishop duds, saying hello from the Les Miz set:

Completely agree with Gargamel. I was hoping they'd go for that intimacy. I'm passionate about musical theatre and all, but even I wouldn't want to sit through hours of on-screen screeching at the top of one's lungs and be treated to nothing but "WoW" belting which I also agree was overused in the latest concert and it all came across insincere. Not all of it but some just over did it.

There will be a Les Miz trailer for the movie attached to next weekend's release of 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.

News!

There will be a 1:30 teaser trailer released this WEDNESDAY through msn.com. And, for some other jolly good news, a couple of promotional stills were released in a USA Today news post. It includes shots of Valjean, Javert, Fantine and Eponine! Here's a link.
Quote:
Anticipation is high for the Dec. 14 release of the big-screen version of one of the most popular stage musicals ever. Though cinematic interpretations of Broadway shows have become more commonplace since Chicago took the 2002 best-picture Oscar, Les Mis represents a new phase in the evolution of the movie musical.

The tale of love, redemption and social unrest that unfolds in 19th-century France — whose dialogue, along with such showstopping numbers as On My Own, is completely sung — will feature live performances instead of following the tradition of actors lip-syncing to a pre-recorded track.

Tom Hooper, Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech, wouldn’t have it any other way.

“If you are miming to a playback, even if the synchronization is done very well, there is a part of you that knows something is off, something is false,” he says. “When it’s live, you believe it so much more. The actors have complete freedom rather than following a recording done three months before.”

Hooper says the results deliver those “spine-tingling moments” he appreciated when he saw the stage show. Fans will get to hear a sampling when a Les Mis teaser premieres on MSN.com Wednesday before it hits theaters Friday.
