Post Re: Les Mis Movie
Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I can't even put into words how excited I am for this friggin' movie to FINALLY hit the theatres! I've been obsessed with Les Miserables for about nine years now since I discovered it when I was 13. I'm, like a lot of everyone else probably, not too crazy about some of the members they have chosen but am trying to stay optimistic. So yes, I will be checking this website daily for updates...woo hoo! :D

Hi, Juliana! Welcome to the board! :) I've been waiting for the movie since 1987, so I'm jazzed that it's finally getting made as well!

I've been finding a lot of updates at the Internet Movie DataBase discussion board for the film as well as here. If you go to www.imdb.com and find the page for Les Miserables (2012), there's a link to the discussion board at the bottom.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1707386/board/threads/ for an immediate link to the IMDB boards.

I'm really quite excited about this film. Especially considering Hooper's doing his very best to record all the singing on-set which must be a ridiculously exhaustive and difficult task. A lot of movie musicals really throw their entire aesthetic around every time a musical number starts - but Les Mis can't and shouldn't do that. The music is the entire score, and I am really curious to see how well it works on screen.
I haven't actually seen the stage show myself - my family went to see it without me in '98 when it was in Belgium. (And then they did take me to see Phantom the year after that, which I thoroughly didn't enjoy. I was 9 and to me it seemed like the actors didn't bother articulating.)
And, actually, also something I'm curious about: the subtitles here in Belgium. Yeah, I don't know why, but you never know in advance if the subtitles will be a proper translation with rhyming and rythm and everything, or just the literal translation of the lines. But that as an aside, of course.

Thanks for posting the direct link, I wasn't sure if we were allowed to link to other message boards here! :)

The IMDb board does have the usual internet craziness at times, but I've found it's the first place that gets news, pics, videos, etc.

Wow I didn't know they were actually going to make this a musical movie, I thought it would just be acting (silly me) anyway, I am so excited, especially for the thenardiers, Helena and Sacha will be completely hysterical, I think they're prefect for their parts. I'm a little worried about Anne Hathway (just because she's a commedian, but I love her). Is anyone else worried about their being nudity because of her? Anyway, I hope there isn't because then my mom won't let me see it :( anyway that's my little view of life, lol

I'm pretty sure there won't be nudity. The 'Lovely Ladies' number might get raunchy, but I doubt they're going to go for nudity.

Interesting news! Something that looks very much like a teaser trailer has leaked onto the internet. It's a clip that is very poorly recorded with a camera from a computer screen, so needless to say, the quality is absolutely terrible. Nonetheless, if you are overexcited like I was, here's a link.

I think it's safe to bet we'll get an actual proper HD quality trailer in the next few weeks now, so you might as well wait. Still, a mere 40 seconds of very low quality footage actually managed to bring me to tears. Anne Hathaway sounds fantastic, and this looks really good.

Yay!! I was hoping for some trailer leakage, no matter how bad the quality! :D :D

Anne sounds absolutely lovely; can't wait to hear her full rendition of the song! Judging by the one clip that shows her actually singing, it looks like they'll be moving IDAD back to it's original OFC placement, after she becomes a prostitute. I'll be interested to see if that works or not.

I'm also loving the look of both Cosettes: both the little one (how interesting that, apparently, they're reinserting the chase scene that was dropped from the Barbican previews; I wonder if that means that "Stars" will be back in its original pre-"Look Down" placement?) and Amanda in her pretty puffy-sleeved dresses... including, it seems, a period-accurate version of the classic black dress! I bet Quique will like that! :D
