 Some TKaI questions
1)Outside of the children and wives, is there an Ensemble? If so, is it males/females together? How active is it?
2) Is the Uncle Thomas Ballet kept in the show in most cases? The reason I ask is because when I did Bye Bye Birdie, both ballets were cut out.
Any help at all would be appreciated!

Yes, there are monks, palace guards, guests for the dinner, and dancers.
I think it is impossible to cut the ballet without destroying the story line and continuity of the play. That's not to say that some idiot wouldn't try to do so......

Cut the ballet and you cut the heart out of the story line. Don't do it!

How is it the 'heart' of the show? Does it serve any other purpose other than an interpretation of Uncle Tom's Cabin?

The king's reaction to the ballet is what tears he and Anna apart. His attitude toward slaves and wives during the ballet drive him to want to whip Tuptim. This in turn (along with Anna's reaction) makes him question his traditional philosophys for the first time in his life. Without the ballet - no reason for the King to punish Tuptim, for Anna to rebuke him, and for the final reconciliation to take place.

Thank you all for your posts so far, but one of my original questions was how active is the Ensemble. What numbers does it appear in?

Bump; can someone please answer the above question? What scenes/songs do the Ensemble (excluding the wives/children) appear in?
