Post The Wolf: Just evil?
Ok so I'm in this show right now and I was just wondering about the character of the wolf compared to the other antagonists of the show. The Witch and the Giant are considered partially evil or bad for the most part, but there is something good in their intentions that would not characterize them as all evil. The wolf on the other hand is just considered evil and posses no positive reasons for any of his choices. In my opinion this works against the idea toward the end of the play that "no one is alone" and there is no one that is simply just good or evil. I have been talking about this with the guy playing the wolf and we haven't figured out why this would be.

Normally I would just ignore this in any other production, but Into the Woods is such an complex play that I figured there must be some reason behind it.

There was, if I'm not mistaken, initially supposed to be a scene where they met the Wolf's mother.

But I'd say the Wolf isn't "evil." He's just acting according to his nature.

It's been expressed that one of the reasons the Wolf is often doubled with Cindy's Prince is because they share a core nature -- both unable to control their voracious appetites. That's a more neutral interpretation of the wolf's nature....
