I'm currently in a french production of Into the Woods in the province of Quebec.

We have the rights, but the production team was unable to find a french-translated version of the musical.

We hired someone to translate it and in my opinion, it's one of the best french translation of a musical I've ever seen (after having seen Quebec production of Rent, Fiddler on the Roof and many others that were poorly translated...)

We would like to use the fact that it's the "French World-Premiere" of the musical, but before officializing it, I'm asking here if someone heard about a french production of Into the Woods.

I'd love to know what Sondheim thought of this translation. Were I fluent in French, I'd love to read it myself. I've never heard of a French production, but you should definitely keep researching before you make the advertising call. It's great that you're making such an effort.

I keep researching, but I haven't found anything (which is great!!)

But we decided not to write on our poster that the show is the "french world-premiere", just in case any amateur production 15 years ago translated it in a far village in France or anything like that!

I talked to the woman who worked on the translation (she's also playing amazingly the Baker's Wife!) and she told me that I can send you our french script after our last show (July 17th!)

I have some good news. MTI acquired our french-speaking rights!! It's incredible.

I have a copy fo the libretto - it's pretty fantastic. I would really love to read your libretto as well if you are willing to share it.

It's great to see that there have already been at least two French versions. I'm looking into the possibility of doing Into The Woods in France in 2013: as far as I can tell, it hasn't been done there yet. I'd be very interested to read your translations.
