Post Baker audition song
So I have an ITW audition coming. I can be reasonably considered a bass-baritone, so my only real open roles are as Mysterious Man, or Baker -- I could do Cindy's Prince/Wolf, but I don't have the right look for it (and I'm on the old side). I'm far more interested in the Baker.

So, audition song time. 32 bars "in the style of the show." Here's my stock audition song yet:

"My Friends", Sweeney Todd
"Feed Me/Git It", Little Shop of Horrors
"Moving Too Fast", [i]The Last Five Years

"I, Don Quixote", Man of La Mancha

From the list, you can probably infer I have a big voice and like to show it off. But none of those feel right. "My Friends" is just begging to be cast as MM or dismissed as too dark a voice.

So I've been thinking I need something lighter. One of my first thoughts was "Solla Sollew" from Seussical. I like the fit thematically to the Baker, and I really like the song. Plus I know it well (having played Horton), though I'll have to be sure to give it a more lyrical voicing then the character voice I used during the show. Trying to think of a Sondheim that fit well, I thought of "The Ballad of Czolgosz" from Assassins, though the Balladeer's a tenor part, the song itself isn't bad (the first first tops out at F4, which is perfectly fine).

Thoughts? One of those? Something else?

Just to followup, I decided to go with "Everybody Says Don't" from Anyone Can Whistle.
