I actually thought that was rather dreadful
Again, if a movie were to be made RIGHT now, bring on Stockard.

 Stockard Channing
Stockard Channing just doesn't have the voice for it. Rose it one role where you need an actress who can really sing. On the other hand, I could see her being a great Joanne in a Company directed by Woody Allen with Hugh Jackman as Bobby.

Daly was one of the finest Rose's and she isnt a "singer" either.
I do think Stockard is too old now for both Rose and joanne however.

 But...
Yes, but she could still sing it. She didn't have to resort to speak-singing either. Based on what Stockard Channing was doing in the revival of Pal Joey, I'm not convinced she has what it takes. Rose isn't Higgins.

Stockard Channing can definitely sing. Did you hear her singing in Grease? I think that her speak-singing in Pal Joey was a choice for the character. However, it might have also been that her voice is just debilitated. I haven't heard her sing for real in awhile, so I don't know what condition her voice is in right now.

Yes, BUT, by the time that Gypsy has another revival, she'll be far too old She's what, 55 now or so? Even if the 5 year cycle was repeated, she'd be 60, a year older than LuPone was. But yes, I can SOO see it

^I know. And it worries me. I hope she does it at a reputable regional theatre or SOMETHING. The Pittsburgh CLO should do it or someone. PLEASE!

i agree with Ruthie Henshall if it was in a few years time
i'm on the fence about Stockard Channing, on the one hand I'd like to see if she could do it coz I think she'd act the hell out of it, but on the other i wouldn't want her to absolutely ruin the show either, which could happen. It could go either way.
