 Big Jule
Question -- Big Jule. In the script is Big Jule a man or a woman? I've now seen it played twice both ways and I'm curious, because I've never seen the script.
Thanks!

 Re: Big Jule
Big Jule is a man, typically a LARGE man, hence the "Big" in his name. A lot of productions tend to change this if they don't have the man to play it, or they make him really small, going even further against the character

 Re: Big Jule
A few productions have cast a very small actor as Big Jule, to make his name ironic. This may or may not be referenced in the Hirschfeld caricature sketch of Guys and Dolls, which features several bodyguards (presumably Harry the Horse) around Nicely Nicely and an extremely diminutive gangster.

 Re: Big Jule
I've seen it with both mael and female, but both were big people. They both did the role really well so I was phased either way. Buff

 Re: Big Jule
Traditionally, Big Jule is played by men who have the ability to be intimidating. Although some make take the ironic route, or cast a women, it is generally portrayed as male.

 Re: Big Jule
In my past expiriences I've always seen a man as big Jule...But I'm sure a girl would do a great job as well!

 Re: Big Jule
I prefer Big Jule to stay male. Sky punches Big Jule in the sewer scene. It just doesn't look right and not funny if Sky punches Big Jule as a woman. Please keep Big Jule male.
