Post Getting Ready!
Hi, I am playing Sarah in a production of guys and dolls that is in less than a week! (May 4th is our opening). I am starting to get a little nervous. This is my first time singing with an orchestra. I was wondering if anyone had some tips of how to get ready for a performance(any kind of warm ups), to get vocally warm but not tired, and also what to do to stay calm.

Thanks!

My voice teacher has be doing scales in lip thrills and hums. I am vocalizing the notes, warming up my voice but not actually singing. It tends not to over warm me up. When I did shows in the past I would warm up on my own doing those exercises, then the musical director would warm us up as a group. If you still feel you need too you can always go over one of your songs. Congrats on Sarah, Break a leg!

Break a leg, sweetie. I'm a fellow Sarah (my show is eight weeks away) and I'm nervous too. My advice is to spend some time going through scales and doing some breathing exercises as I find that calms me. I hope your show goes well, and wish me luck for mine!
