New to the forum. . .
Hello
I'm asking the same question about 10 other people have asked, but I would like to get as much feedback as I can.
It's my senior year of high school, and my last chance to get a lead. I waited my freshman and sophomore year. . .watching the leads to go to upperclassmen, and then bam! We get a new director. . .who gives the role I wanted in Bye Bye Birdie to a sophomore she seems to favor. . .a lot.
That's not right of me to be bitter. Sorry.
Anyway, so this is my last chance to prove myself. . .and I want to audition for Sarah Brown. I've been looking online for detailed descriptions of her character, I've been watching the movie, have the soundtrack, have been practicing my script. . .
I have to sing "I'll know" and "If I were a bell", and I have to read the part in the script where Sky first comes to the mission.
Anyone got any ideas that could help me wow the judges? If so, I would really, really appreciate it Thanks!

I did Guys & Dolls a few years ago...
I'll Know should be very proper, airy - a very pretty song, but you have to be both naive and slightly stern, romantic but slightly unsure of her appeal as a woman. Contrast that with a very flirty If I Were A Bell - Sarah's drunk at this point, and the two songs are great to show off both your acting and singing ranges.
Um...if you have specific questions, ask away, and I'll try my best to help.
Good luck.

 Thanks :)
Thanks for the great tips I think i have "I'll know" figured out.
My questions now are with "if i were a bell". I know for my audition acting wise i'm aiming for the fun, flirty, a little tipsy route. Acting completely and totally sloshed wouldn't be appropriate, would it?
The only thing I'm confused about is the singing. Whereas "I'll know" is a proper, airy kind of song, which is more my singing style. . .the recordings i've listened to of "If i were a bell" sound a little more belty. . .and i haven't really been trained to belt.
i don't know. Should I put those b flat's and c's in head voice? Or should i belt them out? I don't want to bounce back and forth between sounding pretty and sounding a little, more popish or jazzified (yes, I make up words).
Belting really isn't my thing. . .i'm no Idina Menzel, but that's what my teacher is into, so i am kind of unsure what voice to sing If I were a bell in. . .if that makes any sense?
Sorry, i'm babbling, lolz!

For If I Were a Bell - if you can't belt, don't, but that song is a belting song. If you have to go into your head voice, you have to, but it is better if you belt it. However, if you do the rest well but don't belt, a lot of directors will see that and cast you and then work with you (or have the musical director work with you) to get the belt out. Ultimately, you know your voice best, and if you think that you sound much better in head voice than a belt, well, it's better to sound good than bad.
(For the audition, play it tipsy. I think that she's more sloshed than tipsy in the show, but, you don't want to stumble around like an idiot in an audition, it's just bad form. ^.~)
And for male07, what do you want to know? And what are you planning on singing? Sky is suave and sexy without being a skeez, he's confident and arrogant, but charming.
Again, ask away, and I'll do my best to help.

Thanks
My mom's a band director and I tried to ask her, but she was completely clueless.
I guess I'll sing this song in chest voice. I have over a month to practice that. . .I'm just scared I'll sqeak or squak or something.
I don't know about you haha, but I can mess up a million times in rehearsal and then FINALLY get it when the time comes to audition*knock on wood*. Maybe that will happen with this too.

If you can do the accent, you should. I mean, accents can be taught, but if you already have one, why not show it off?
In I'll Know, he's trying to show Sarah that he can be romantic, too, and that she's got him pegged all wrong. You want to be genuine in that song, not overly showy. Just real.
And in Luck Be a Lady, you're desperate, you're angry, but still in control. Try to feel what you are singing - if you do it right, you can really paint the image of this beautiful and fickle woman. Also, your articulation must be dead on in this song.
For the Havana scene - charming, but with a lot of subtle amusement at Sarah's antics, because she's acting completely different than she normally would.
Hope that helps. And continue to ask away...
