 Godspell Jr?
So, this youth theatre group I am typically involved in is doing Godspell Jr for our fall show. The thing is, I'm not a great singer, and I don't want to be stuck in the chorus, especially since I'm one of the oldest kids in the group (1st through 12th grade). And I've already checked the MTI site and looked at the show page, and read all the character descriptions.
But I'm really not sure exactly what everyone does. It says there's like, five or so soloists for different songs, and then some narrators, and then some players. But do the soloists just sing their specific song then return to the chorus, or do they have dialogue as well? From the descriptions, I almost think that the narrators and players just come out of their chorus for their one scene.
The cast for our shows is normally 70 to 80 kids, and occasionally more. Our director might split up some parts to allow more kids in the spotlight, but I don't know yet, and probably won't until rehearsals start.
Has anyone done Godspell Jr before, and can enlighten me as to what everyone does?
And, since this theatre is a pay to perform type, should I bother to sign up? I'm most comfortable as an alto, but I'm much better at acting that singing. Do I have any chance at getting any substantial part?

Do you have to pay to audition? I say if you really want to do this show, and even if you don't and want experience, you should audition for it. See what they give you and if they ask you beforehand if you're planning on participating even if you don't get a lead tell them your intentions. That way you'll have the audition experience, have a chance at doing the show, but not be stuck in a position you don't want.

With the group I'm in, you fill out an application, pay, then spend a week or two learning the music. After two or three weeks, there are auditions, where everyone sings a song from the show and performs the audition scene.
Everyone who signs up is in the cast, though most are just chorus, especially if they're younger. People can drop out, but hardly anyone ever does.
So, yeah. I'll have to pay to audition. And if I audition, but don't get a part I want, I don't think my parents will allow me to quit.

So are you doing anything else at the time, or will the show conflict with school auditions or performances? If not, I'd say GO for it!! Look at your own sig...it has a because you are currently doing "nothing" - so something is always better than nothing, right?

I don't think it's gonna conflict with anything I really want to do. There's a radio drama thing I have an opportunity to be in, and those rehearsals are at the same time as the Godspell ones, but I'm not sure if I really want to do that. I'd rather be on stage than reading into a microphone....
And my school hasn't even announced next years show, but since the youth theatre rehearses on Saturdays and the school show rehearses after school, it won't really conflict. And I'm not even sure if I want to do the school show, since I'm not very fond of the director.
I'm gonna be seeing a friend from the group this weekend, and I might do the show if he is. It's much more fun if you're performing with friends.
But I'm still kinda curious what everyone does in the Junior production. I know it's different from the normal production, but the site is really vague... And I'd rather not go into rehearsals being all like, 'What? Huh? I don't get it.'
