This is pretty close to what we did. I (director) considered it just the bows, but let people take it however they wanted.

Hey guys! It's fun to see what everyone added -- pop culture references, etc.
Since we're an "older" cast, most of our references seem "older", like Leave it to Beaver for the prodigal son. We also have "Charlie's Angels", Godfather and John Wayne. Others we've toyed with -- Brady Bunch, Martha Stewart, a film noir scene.
And one of the ones getting the biggest laugh recently -- an "I'm lovin' it" McDonald's reference.

It is a ton of fun to hear about everybody's productions! By the way, we just Monty-Python-ified the adulteress scene a la "Witch Burning Scene." It's a tad....comical....perhaps more so than it should be, but I can say that it will be unique!
"Master, this woman is an adulteress? May we stone her?"
"Yes, yes! Stone her! Stone her!"
"Did I miss the stoning?"
Actually....we do quite a bit of Monty during the show....I'm probably going to Monty up the story of the rich man and his crops also. Oh yeah, and some of our cast goes Charlie's Angels in the "No servant can be the slave of two masters...." scene. The rest of us are acting out the story. Just for the heck of it!

Next time I direct it, I'm going to add puppies.
Lots and lots of puppies.

 70's rummage sale
Well in my production our set was like 70's style. We had a tye-died, flower-power back drop and we based or props and other set pieces as a rummage sale. It was really cool, and our audiences commented on it a lot. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
*The girl who is searching for her dreams*

 We added...
For our 10/2005 production we:
did the 2001 tour arrangements,
put Beautiful City in place of Learn Your Lessons reprise,
recorded the Prologue and hav a video montage of the philosophers / war/ /famine/ etc...
set it at Ground Zero 9/11/2001
revealed a cross like the one they found at the site (cross beams)
added a ressurection: the cast took me down from the cross / switched me with a stage-hand / carried him out
we then had an explosion that split the cross in 2 and i came through the middle (got a big cheer every night)

we had a resurrection too. ours took place in a school and at the end, we all went out into the audience during long live god and when we got to the door leading outside, we looked back to the stage and Jesus was there in a janitor's outfit, mopping the floor, then he winked at everyone. i really liked that ending.

We had John and Judas be two different people. Our Judas was the orchestra director, because he wanted a cameo. Our Judas wore the Superman shirt, and our Jesus wore all white, and the shirt said WWID? in bright pink.
We also randomly stuck in lines from past plays/musicals that we did, like the guy who was the voice of Audrey II in our previous year's production of Little Shop yelling 'FEED ME, SEYMOUR! I'M STAAAAAARVING!" and other random stuff.
