I personally liked the song changes. I liked "NYC" better than "Let's go to the movies". I loved "Something was missing" but that might just be because I love Victor Garber's singing voice. I was sorta disappointed that they didn't keep "Dumb dog" and "Sandy" in the 1999 version. I didn't really miss "We got Annie". What are you thoughts?

Actually, the only "song changes" were made to 1982 version."Let's Go to the Movies", "We Got Annie", "Dumb Dog", and "Sandy" were all written for the 1982 version. The 1999 includes most of the original songs from the musical.
I like the 1982 version for the cast and the 1999 version because it has more of the songs from the musical. Honestly, I prefer the 1999 version, but only a bit more than the 1982 one.

I was referring to the song changes between the 1982 moive and 1999 movie not the Broadway show to the movies. I actually prefer the cast in the 1999 version. Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Victor Garber, and Kathy Bates were all really good.

I like the 1999 version it sticks closely to the musical version.

I hatedt he tv film. it sugar coatedt he story even more. took out Hannigans drinking, ..everyone was miscast except Cumming.


The 1982 film had a cast of legends. the great Albeert Finney as Warbucks, Comic master Carol Burnett as Hannigan , Tim Curry,Bernadette Peters,Ann Reinking,Edward Herrmann,Geoffry holder. amazing really.

The film wasnt great, but the tv version was a disaster.

Are you forgetting my personal favorite change, "Sign"? God, I love that song!

the 1982 film scared me when I was little, and honestly, I haven't seen it since. But I quite enjoyed the newer for TV version. If was fun seeing Cheno and Audra, and I liked the Annie in that one.

funny story, my college roommate at the time it came out had a little sister named Annie, who looked exactly like the girl in the movie, only with brown hair.

Upfront prejudice: I've produced Annie for community theatre. I've wrangled dogs and orphans. I don't like little girls. I mean REALLY. Under the age of 12 I don't even much like my nieces. I love them, but I prefer spending time with the older ones. This is why I teach upper grades and high school. I've been asked to play Hannigan twice and turned it down each time because I really do hate little girls and they wouldn't live till opening night. I'd hug them till their heads popped off.

Having said that...

I love the music in the 1999 version and hated, hated, hated the cast. I loved the cast in the 1982 movie, and hated, hated, hated the musical changes from the stageplay.

Sorta the same way I feel about "Grease", I guess...

burnett and finney sound great in the 82 film gotta admit that robin.

The 80's version is my fave for many reasons including:

The stellar cast-Quinn, Finney, Peters, Curry, Burnett...etc.
They all were on their "A" game in the movie.

The cinematography made the movie feel like one of those classic musicals.

The music was great. Unlike some, I feel that the music that was written for the movie is somewhat better (save "Why Change A Thing?" "A New Deal For Christmas", and "Something Was Missing". The first and last song should have been included in the movie, because they broaden the characters.) The only problem that I had with the original movie was the second to last scene where Annie tears the check up and runs up the bridge. I mean seriously? Would any kid climb up that thing?

I also thougtht that the cabinet scene could have been included in the movie also. It would have let you see more of Roosvelt.

Besides that, the movie is amazing!
