Am I too tall to be Hodel or Chava?
This coming Saturday, I'll be auditioning for a role in Fiddler on the Roof. I had figured out which monologue I would use, which song to sing (we're given specific monologues and songs, we can't pick our own) and everything. The role I am most hoping for is Hodel, as I sing Far From the Home I Love well and am good at being sarcastic. I would also like to be Chava, because I like the range of emotions she goes through, and the casting directors know I'm very bookish so they know that the role of Chava wouldn't be much of a stretch for me, plus she's closest in age to me. So, I planned on reading the Chava monologue where she's telling Tevye how she wishes to marry Fyedka (I was going to do the Hodel one, but it's very flat and dry) and singing the opening line of Matchmaker (I sing it well, though it's one of the shorter song options). The problem is, I'm 5'8 and the tallest girl in the company.
With a height like this, I really should be going out for Golde or Tzietel, but I can't sing in Golde's range or be as commanding as she, and I just can't see myself as Tzietel.
Luckily, my theatre company is children's theatre (k-12), so they aren't super picky about appearances (in Aladdin last year, Aladdin and Jasmine were blonde, for example) so I think I'm probably worrying about nothing.
If it helps any, I am a first soprano, my strong suit is acting and stage presence, and I'm a very talented singer, but dancing's not my forte.
Thank you!

I suppose it really depends if the boy you play opposite of is taller. But if they don't mind appearences, I think you'll be just fine! Break a leg!!!

Height shouldn't really matter - acting ability should trump. In the movie Neva Small, who played Chava, was only slightly shorter than Michele Marsh and Rosalind Harris (Hodel and Tzeitel respectively). I've seen other productions where all 3 girls were of almost equal height.
